Blyton Park 2017

Thanks to all the guys for running an excellent day today, bit gutted that I had to leave early to do the school run, but Carol enjoyed it.

Really excellent way of running the day, especially for the complete novices, gives them great space to learn.

If the September day is happening, then I am definitely going to come along and do the whole day.

Thank you.

(Can we have the same weather please).

Yep, really good day. Thanks to all those involved in the organisation - Rod, Richard and their teams and Jess and Ben for adjusting my roll bar.

Yes, great day, thanks Rod.

A few sample pictures from the day.

I tried to picture everybody and will stick them on a Flikr to download once I get back off holiday.

If anyone doesn't want pictures of their cars to appear on the Flickr link, please PM me, and I will omit the pictures.

Great day! Thanks Rob and all involved in the organisation - and apologies to Ian, Ben and anybody else who had to endure me whittling on about PDK and how different the Cayman was to an old 911 []

Tony

Back at home after an excellent day at Blyton, enjoying a nice glass of wine, and feeling a bit raw around the neck after the sun[8|].

Thank you to AW Crash Repair Centres for their support and sponsorship, and Jade and Alice for attending. Ben from Rennspeed, Porsche Specialist, for being on hand and dispensing advice, as well as for bringing that very nice 944 Turbo Cup Sport (still disappointed there were no shark's teeth decals). And of course Dave from Nottingham OPC for bringing some very nice goodies for us to buy, and once again supporting our Blyton event.

We must also thank Richard Usher and the team at Blyton for making it so enjoyable! Lets remember all those marshals around the circuit, thankfully not needed but never less essential, and out their fireproof overalls in the sun and heat today so we could have this wonderful day enjoying our cars.

Lastly can I thank all those who attended, and the excellent driving standards and track etiquette shown - a testimony to the Club.

Thank you Mark, glad Carol enjoyed it, the aim is to give everyone a chance to enjoy the day whatever their level of 'expertise'. We are very lucky to have the instructors we have. September will be happening, entry forms will be out very shortly - watch this space, and spread the word!!

As for the weather we'll try - I bet quite a few will be feeling a bit burnt, as well as me - that cooling wind was deceiving !!

Thank's Ian, at one point I am sure your front wheels were on eBay, but maybe Jess and Ben thought the better of it [:D]

Thank you Tony, good to see you. Bet you got a number of different views on the pdk - but this has to be the best environment to understand its different modes, so don't worry about 'whittling on' thats what the day's for - understanding your car.

Thanks to everyone who made today so good, again! I will be back in September, Ian Harvey great to see you after, what 20 years?? 😁

And thanks Steve Newton for the final drive of the day, what an incredible 10 laps😈🙄

Your pics are awesome, pm heading your way 🙂

Rod,

Can I add my thanks to you and the "team" for a great track day. Even the weather was exceptional for a change (I can recall a few years back when parts of the circuit, and Ushers in particular, resembled a boating lake..!).

I'm based in Bedfordshire and as usual it was great to chat to members from different Regions - a very well organised and friendly event.

Jeff

Afternoon, all.

Paul, nice to see you, too; there were at least 6 cyclists there by my reckoning.

Jeff 'Motorhead', I wish I'd realised you were there. We've chatted on this forum many times.

Tony, I'm sure you're not the only one to take a little time to adjust to PDK on track, you'll get there. Glad you're enjoying the R.

Rod, I trust Ben! I've concluded the soft front ARB not as suited to me as medium. You must be delighted with all the positive feedback.

Lastly, Phil, I look forward to seeing the photos - enjoy your holiday.

Aren't we a friendly bunch!

Cheers

We are a friendly bunch Ian , and I'm very delighted with the feedback - not just for me but for everyone else involved on organising and running it on the day.

Never been a cyclist, but did keep hearing lots of people mentioning cycling at the track day, I can see we'll have to have a cycling session at the next track day :ROFLMAO:

Thanks Jeff for making the journey - glad you enjoyed it

I've been a keen cyclist for over 4 decades and there's always been a lot of cross-over both ways, cycling/sports cars. They even do bike racing at Blyton these days.

That would make an interesting spectacle Ian.

By the way, the penny's just dropped: a red GT4 having its front ARB softened off (?); you chatting to Tony (R) as I was just heading home and you both giving me some useful advice on avoiding possible hold-ups on the A1 south if necessary. As it happened the A1 was remarkably clear for a Bank Holiday Friday, so I had a very smooth run home on criuse control.!

Good to put a face to the name and hope to catch up with you some other time.

BTW, did the ARB mod work? I think that you were trying to improve steering feel. Great to see a GT4 that's being used as it should be, so well done for that.

All the best.

Jeff

Thanks to all for the organisation of the day! Great to meet folks too!

After getting a good look at how open Blyton is, I was left wishing I had booked to take my 996T on the track!!!

I've cobbled together a video of the day - it runs to about 55 minutes lol! Nothing amazing, I only have a cheap Panasonic handheld cam, and no tripod.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXUXKFHAG4U - when viewed in Chrome or a suitably good browser, 1080p should be an option to play this back in.

Rod/Richard - if anyone has any concerns about their car being featured in a video, please feel free to remove this link and PM me - I will take the video down. (It is a hidden video on YouTube - only watchable if you have the actual link as posted above. If anyone wants me to remove this I am happy to do so)

I hope I caught most folks cars at some point :O)

Rgds

Jeff,

I remember our chat well, just didn't realise you were 'Motorhead'!

Good effort coming up from Bedfordshire, sounds like it was worth the effort. As for the ARB, I preferred the origional medium/medium set up and will revert to that soon. The difference wasn't significant and is hard to sum-up but there were times mid-corner where the rear would shift and felt vague for my driving method/style or whatever you'd call it, especially if I wasn't hard on the throttle. I tried to 'drive round it' but it never felt as precise as before nor did it offer any perceived benefit in terms of speed or feel....Plenty of experts on here will have an opinion but that's my take on it.

To be fair, the more I press-on, there is no lack of feel. I am trying hard and the car does respond well and is definitely more fun the faster I go.

Obvious, really, I suppose.

Cheers,

Ian.
