black 993 rs at autofarm

Des

I think you are being a little unfair. Even I conceed that vereybody is entitled to their own view. In the same way Eric is not stictly right when he says that the GT3 is more accomplished than the aircooled RS's. If he had qualified that by saying that for what he was after in a car, it was more accomplished, then fine. All the points that make it more accomplished for him make it less accomplished for the likes of Des and myself. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Ultimately, we buy cars that suit us and our financial situation at the time. For me, at the moment, having no depreciation is important as is the feel of the RS. As mentioned before, if I have to move to Oz, although I would take the RS, I would probably buy a GT3 for the daily drive with aircon and suspension more suited to the roads. But I also have to accept that the cost of motoring will go up because of the depreciation.

Each to their own and all I hope is that whatever decision Eric makes, he enjoys the car he gets. I personally think from all he has written that a 993RS with aircon is the car he really wants, but he finds it hard to justify due to price, compared with the GT3.

Eric, just an idea but how about a 993 2 or 4s ?

Lots in lhd available, hold there money if not increasing in value, and bullet proof.

Hi Simon, think you got the point correctly: i am not trying to assess what is 'the' best car, but rather what is the car most suited to a certain function.... or to my personality...

Any of the 3 cars would fill me with joy anyway!

I already find myself in the financial situation to have such a discussion... how lucky!

Unfortunalty i have never been on a track with a 964 rs but i am confident enough that it would be something amazing.

Paul, i have driven a friend' s 993 c2s last week in Nice (France) and found it very... bulky, lacking delicacy, clunky. A least when compared to the boxster S and the 3 elises i had before.

My experience of the gt3 (as a passenger...) on the track, was that it was so sharp, reponsive in both steering and engine. So sportingly accomplished... yet civilised. Almost a miracle of a car!

The 964 rs' s i have been in on the road showed clearly from scratch their ambitions...of uncompromised sportiness.

...i must say i do not find them (996) pretty... i would have the 964 rs anytime that i find much better looking!

Bottom line, yes maybe the 993rs is my ideal car (i find it very nice looking too!).

I am hopefully seeing this car tomorrow (lhd gt3):
http://www.carsinternational.com/

My choice is definetly not done yet.... i keep my eyes opened for a few more days.... please do not hesitate to make suggestions of cars to see!

Thanks again everyone.
Eric.

Eric since buying mine this year I have not studied prices to closely but that price seems to be good provided the car is correct.

In your dreams! In comparing the GT3 and 964RS there are a lot of things you can say that are "better" in the GT3 but when it comes to sharp and responsive in steering, the GT3 feels dead compared with a 964RS. As for engine response, if more power equals better response, then maybe. But you don't need power to feel responsive.

I am happy to agree that the 964RS is comprimised for most on the public roads but if people think that the GT3 is sharper and more responsive, maybe the deadness of the GT3 is right for you [;)][:D]

Was it Evo Magazine who did the test 964RS V GT3RS AND SUMMISED

"The 964RS was the sharper track day racer"

or words to that effect..........

gosh i did not realise i was going to trigger such a passionate debate!

Btw, there is a nice black clubsport gt3 mk1 1 owner and 18.5k km on www.mobile.de
about 65k euros.

Best part of £45k .............................. to much for a LHD car no matter how nice.

Eric not really a debate with the 64 RS boys more an ongoing saga !!!
Being new to the forum you will find a lot of mines better than yours etc etc ......................and mine is but they just wont have it [:D]
My comments are normally meant to provoke a little "debate" as you call it from these 2 in particular ..................... they always bite !!

I am at Eynsham Saturday if you want to come and talk about GT3's ............................ and if you want a laugh we can go look at some "old" 964 RS's

Who would believe mere hacks! After all, they get given the cars for free and never have to pay for their motoring..............................or is the one who was so impressed with the 964RS that after the test he went and bought one for himself?[;)][:D]

Eric

It's not so much as stirring up passion. It's just (not so) gentle wind ups. I think we all respect each others cars, just don't tell the GT3 people I said so because it's far more fun dangling bait (as they do for the 964RS owners!)

why have you lot come over to this regsiter to have more discussion about which car is best etc,the poor man only wanted to find out about a black 993rs at autofarm.
Please lower the tone of your own register and not the 993rs,remeber we are silent but deadly![;)]

Hi Eric,

I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago. I drove a few cars and settled on a tasty 993 rs which I am absolutely delighted with.

The lads on the forum gave some great advice but ultimately it's your decision. My advice is to drive as many as possible and buy what you like best - and can afford ! All these cars are fantastic and whatever you get, it will be a great purchase.

There is plenty of 'healthy' banter between the water and air-cooled mob, which you might have noticed [&:]

I'm at the Festival on Sunday if you need to pick some (small) brains.....

Hi Des, the black GT3 i mentioned is a club-sport belonging to a porsche employee and virtualy like new, serviced at porsche and new tyres.
It has only been at a driving tuition day once, and had one owner.
I think £44k is a good price for a 1 owner, 11t miles LHD mk1 in such condition?

The only gt3 lhd i found in the uk is the 1 i mentioned above at carsinternational and has 30t miles, is silver (a minus for me) and needs service, a front splitter and check breaks etc. It costs £38k, with hardly any margin for negociations.

I prefer the £6k dearer car which is like new... and black!

Is clubsport that better?? i hear they are more sought after but i fear to loose some comfort and noise insulation... can someone enlight me on this?

If someone knows about another super nice lhd gt3 mk1 or mk2 in the UK in black (non-red or yellow), please let me know!

Paul Jennings and Pilot Paul, i should be at Eynsham with Feroz Hoda (black 964 rs lhd => H 1 ODA) on sunday. I hope i can see you guys there?
Look up for a French guy named Eric....

Regards,
Eric.

ps: i think i am starting to get a clear picture of the good-old 'banter' that is going on around here... can' t start just yet with me i do not have the car yet.... oh well am French... go on then!

Eric, it sounds like you have made your mind up anyway, if the car is as nice as you say and you have to spend nothing on it then it sounds fine.

Regards

Piers Maserati had 2 LHD GT3 Mk2 Comforts for sale a few months ago, maybe still for sale? One was Silver with 10K, the other Basalt Black with 1K miles. Piers can be reached at Trackspeed on 01483 200616

Hi Nick, thanks a lot, sounds quite exciting,. I tried to phone the number but no reply / or voicemail...
Does he have a website? i googled his name and found he is a racer, but nothing about his cars for sale...
Regards,
Eric.

Eric I may have a car for you, wrong colour (for you) but great price !!

e-mail me if interested.
