Bird Strike!

After pulling out to overtake 2 slow moving vehicles tonight I got the foot down in 3rd when I saw what looked like two bits of roadkill up ahead round about where I would be pulling back in. I aligned my wheels to go over the middle when the two things took off, the one right in the middle wasn't quick enough though and grazed my bonnet before catching my passenger wiper arm/blade flush! An almighty thud followed and after initially noting my windscreen was still intact I noticed that the passenger wiper arm and blade were pointing skyward (like one of those daft single blade VW things) at right angles to my driver side blade. A good old smattering of guts and feathers also decorated my view on the world. I'm guessing the last thing that went through the bird's mind was it's arse!

Anyway got it home and luckily the arm had just twisted on it's mount due to the impact. My blade copped it though bent in 2 places forming a Z.

A bit of re-aligment and some spare blades and were up and running again. Lucky escape, not for the bird though it would seem. That's twice I've scudded a bird now after years of the buggers always managing to get out the way in time. Must slow down!

Has anyone else suffered this type of thing?

I startled pheasant once whilst I was driving the rover. It was sat in the middle of the opposite side of the road. It took off and in doing so impacted my car on the windscreen directly in front of me. The poor stupid creature then went over the car where it collided with my go kart which I was transporting on the roof rack at the time. The windscreen was a mess and I had to pull feathers out of the kart.[&:]
