Best place to buy wheelnuts from (and what to spray them with)?

ORIGINAL: ChasR

I was told by my tyre fitter to torque alloy nuts low. When I queried them coming loose he seemed to think it would not be an issue. Maybe I was lucky but on the times I worked on my S2 after that the nuts never came loose.

If you think Porsche nuts are bad you should see them on Triumphs (well, Stags and Dolomite Sprints). A combination of a high torque figure (it's around 130NM!) and 7/16" nuts with a UNF thread is a recipe for disaster (amazingly, mine were all original!).
Interesting. The Porsche listed figure for wheel nuts is 130NM. I have done the new nuts up to 110NM to be a bit on the safe side. I'm slightly reassured that your tyre fitter said they could be lower as well. Out of curiosity, did he give a figure for this?

Oli.

I can't say I do I am afraid. What I do remember is him not going much tighter than beyond hand tight on a wheel brace (well, an extending one (that's his code of practice though for any car)). I would have said 90-100Nm seems to ring a bell, but I would have to query him.

Always do mine up to the factory figure, no issues even on worn ones, I would be wary of leaving them too loose though, I remember Mark K having them come loose on a trackday after only a few laps and have seen it happen to others too,

I torque mine up to what Porsche specify.

As for taking care of them, I cleaned mine up with brake cleaner then waxed them [8|]
