Best Drivers Roads in Britain

Building on a thread that is going slightly off topic in the 996 forum, what are the best drivers roads in your opinion. During a recnt trip to Wales I tried out a few from Autocar last year and also some personal recommendations. I converted all of the recommendations for all of Britain from that autocar article into MS Autoroute files. If anyone wants a copy, they are here

Personally, the best road I found was from Cerrigydrudion to Bala in North Wales.....

One of the best roads I know is Blakey Ridge which runs from Hutton-le-Hole across the North Yorks moors to Castleton. The road from Pickering to Whitby across Fylingdales Moor is also great although much busier.

IIRC these roads are often used by magazines such as EVO for their group tests.

I love driving in Wales so I downloaded your Autocar routes, but after unzipping none of them will open. I currently use AutoRoute 2001 with XP, but my older versions could not open them either. The error message is ' an unnamed file has a bad format' .
Any ideas?

One of the best driving roads I ride is from shores of Loch Lomond (A82) up to Fort William via Glen Coe then to Kingussie via the A86 then on to Grantown-on-Spey, Dufftown, Huntley, and then quick run to Aberdeen on the infamous A96. A classic route for its scenery and amazing roads. The Boxster just loves them. Well, actually, its me that loves driving them especially in the Boxster (and with the hood down an a clear, blue sky day. Something to live for. Unfortunately there are not many " blue sky" days in Scotland.

Of course, you can always take the quick route up the A80,M80,A9,A90 via Stirling, Perth and Dundee but that is so boring.

Ian, as an Aberdonian living in London the route which you describe brings back many happy memories of uncrowded roads to have a blast on. I' m awaiting delivery of my Boxster having sold my TT but know it won' t be as well used down here as " up North" . Don' t complain about the weather, enjoy the roads.....
