Best 944 day today

Took the turbo out for its first real outing today. I drove it the 65 miles to work and back.
It felt fantastic on the slippy roads and the power was great for both motorway and B roads.

On the way home, i was cruising on the M4 heading westbound between junctions 11 and 15 when in my rear view mirror is a mettalic grey C plate 944 turbo!
I gave the driver a wave as he went past and we go for a convoy. It was a brilliant feeling as we passed slower cars. These cars can really hold thier own even when 23 years old and doing 130 leptons. I gave another wave at Junction 15 as i exited and went home. C*** CYN - are you on here?

Great - thats what classic car ownership is all about.

On the way to pick up my children from school, a red 944 S2 past me with the owner waving frantically. I recognise the car from Wanborough near Swindon.

Again - is the owner on here?

Ive regained my passion for these cars again after quite a hefty repair bill and replacement program. Parcels arrive everyday at the Rav household, the neighbours even asked if i was importing drugs from Columbia. The cheek......

P.S. C*** CYN - sell me your wheels?

hiya rav, great to hear your enjoying her, i was out earlier really opening my girls valves and after a lot of recent work, she is driving so well, keep driving her, they seem to love being driven often and hard[imho] all the best jason p

I was late for the dentists this afternoon, jumped into the 944 and was half way down the drive when I relaised that the big red light was still on...oil!

she is so sensitive as soon as the oil goes near the bottom marker on the dipstick she lights up like a Christmas tree, and as I have 3 minor leaks it gets there often!
Soo after popping a litre in the 'ole I set off again...and as soon as she was warm all was forgiven as I rode a nice wave of boost in third past an S-Max....

I gave the driver a wave as he went past and we go for a convoy.

Even though we so often group-up on our way to meets it's such fun to stumble across another owner and play for a while. We were once passed by a convoy of Lambos, Countaches and Diablos, obviously on their way to a show and clearly breaking the speed limits by some margin. Probably about twice. It does create a great impression to see groups of cars in convoy.

The only shame is that we always have that feeling in the back of our mind that we're ambassadors for the Marque, and how we drive does influence other's perception of Porsche drivers in general. [&:]

when I relaised that the big red light was still on...oil!

I've had my car over 11 years now and not once has the oil light come on, this however doe's not mean that i have an oil leak free car or no usage. I guess the light isn't working and only after reading this post did I actually sit up and take notice...lol

Any ideas guy's??????

Pete

Pete does it come on when you apply the handbrake? If it does it may well be the oil level sensor which is on the sump. Mine sometimes comes on when I park on a hill lol. Slightly annoying as it won't go off until it is reset by switching off the ignition.

My light does come on. I learnt that the first week I had it, and it wasn't a good experience when the dash lit up. It wasn't really all that low on the dipstick, about 1/2 lt I think. I suspect that if you check the oil regularly you'll never see the light.

Hmm.. can't say it does but then never really checked, you sure your not getting confused with the handbrake light Rob?
It does come on when the ignition is switched on and then goes out once the engine has started( this seems normal behaviour for an oil warning light)

My level has certainly dropped lower than that Paul and still no light.?..:(

No mate the general warning light at the top of the binacle. Big one. Oblong with a big exclamation on it. You can't miss it. Should tell you when the handbrake is applied or when oil level is low. Forget if it has any other functions. Sure someone will come along and say though. When oil level is low it is also accompanied by the little dipstick lighting up and oil level lighting on the dash. Small switch on the bottom of the handbrake lever operates it for the handbrake.

Wasn't me!! I've not been passed by a 944 yet. In fact i've been doing quite alot of passing myself in the S-Max over the past few days, it has got some get up and go when you get it in the right gear at the right time, though met my match with an R32 today.

handbrake is applied or when oil level is low.

I guess I have a fault then as it only comes on when the handbrake is applied and has been like that since I've owned the car...lol[8|][8|]

Nothing better than a convoy of '44's on the open road, they look so good on the move especially while making "discrete progress". [8D] Glad DHX is going well Rav. Hopefully will be getting my car back at the weekend all being well.

I had a few panic attcaks in the early days of owning my current car as the oil warning light is stupidly sensitive, especially having parked on a miled backward sloping incline. Feels pretty unnerving carrying on driving with that big red light glowing manevolently at you, even when you know for a fact that there's plenty of oil where its supposed to be and not all over the road underneath you. Well before my car goes in for work I also took mine out. I enjoyed driving it on the motorway and the fact that with the engine not doing many revs and still having some go to it, it still is a very relaxing yet sporty place to be.

Country roads were also enjoyed quite a bit.

All was well until I came across the horrendous traffic jam in Birmingham (which bright spark decided to close all of the clockwise portion of the Birmingham Ring Road off?).

Well Pete we all look after our cars mate (you more so than most I thinlk) and as long as you have a good idea how much you have and the pressure is good then don't suppose it matters. Knowing you though I am guessing it will be fixed by the weekend lol. Us turbo guys especially usually know about how much oil we have as the oil can is the natural watering hole of the 944 turbo!!!

Mine is the first car I have carried a litre can in in the boot in for a long time!

Think Birmingham closed itself for some poeple to go for a jog over the weekend!

Mike

Ahhh, that makes sense. Why would they want to go for a jog? (wish I was as fit as I was 5 years ago lol).

Today, the 944 is no longer with me :(.

(The above is stretching the truth slightly, but I do miss not looking out onto it from the window).

I'll second that Albert. I get 2 x 5 litre cans for my oil change then keep the three or so litres left over in the boot lol!
