Belts replacing & water pump type

Hi all

I'm thinking if the 944 doesn't sell very shortly I will change the belts, don't want to take any risks for myself or the next owner.

Looking at buying online there's mention of the original water pump type fitted will change the belt kit that's needed. Is there any easy way of knowing which water pump type I've got? Don't want to buy the wrong kit!

Hi Andy,

I believe the new water pump has a curved metal guard rail that sits between the two sides of the belt.

Spotted the video at the weekend when I was being a water pump geek looking at all possible sources of information prior to pulling mine apart...

if you are just changing the belts no need to worry about pullies as belts are the same

New style waterpump has a blocked off plastic pipe for turbo versions that gives the game away without needing to take the covers off to see []

One has 2.5 in the casting, one has 2.7. The 2.7 is for the 104mm blocks and the 2.5 is for 100mm blocks.

Thanks for the info guys and the video link Rob, really useful. I'll have to take a look to see which pump I have then as the way I was reading about the belt kits available, I'd need a different one for the new type pump as opposed to the old type
