Bearing noise?

When I go hard and fast (ooh err) around left hand cormers I get a bearing noise. In a straight line there is no problem. With the car jacked up and the wheels spun by hand, there is no noise.

Is the a transaxle problem?

Ta.

You don't say where the noise is coming from but as you are asking about transaxle - I'll assume the back. It could be any one of CV joint, stub axle bearing or (less likely IMHO) a differential side bearing.

When you are turning at speed you are side loading the bearings which you can't really replicate by turning the wheels when jacked up so more diagnosis will be required. Perhaps start with an experienced passenger in the back so you can be sure which side the noise is coming from and go from there.

Easiest things to check are CV joints first - you should be able to determine any play while they are hooked up. To check axle bearings - you are looking for side play in the stub axle. I'd remove the wheel and undo the axle from the suspect side and see if you have lateral play in the hub - should be very little to none and the axle should turn freely. Finally - if all that is good - then look at the differential side - again looking for play in the bearing.

If none of that turns up an obvious source then you'll have to start taking things apart for inspection. The good news is this is not wasted effort as your CV joints probably need a cleaning and fresh grease anyway [;)]
