I'm having a problem with my battery going flat over a week or so with no use. I'm pretty sure the battery is ok although it's difficult to check as it's sealed. It does however accept a full charge with my optimate charger.
Does any one know roughly how many amps the car should pull when it's turned off. ?
As far as I'm aware, the only things that are still 'live' are the clock, immobiliser and stereo memory function. I've hooked up a meter, and pulled all the fuses and relays I can find, this hasn't turned anything up. The car is pulling between 1.6, and 3.2 amps with everything switched off. Anyone any ideas...?
 
Hi Dodger, I don't know about the Amps etc. but my 3.2 had exactly the same problem, and I could only think it was the Porsche immobiliser doing the draining. I fitted a battery isolator in about 10 minutes, at huge cost (12 quid or so), and presto! - problem solved, plus an added security device.
 
Hi dodger i too have no idea about amps but when my battery went flat i invested in a trickle charger ,i think it was about £25 from halfords, just plug your 3.2 into the 240
 
Thanks guys, I've been disconnecting the battery most nights when I park up, it just gets frustrating having to reset everything the next day. I was thinking it may be the immobiliser, as it's the factory fitted effort, but as yet I've been unable to find it in the car to check it out.
 
do you have a spear battery that you could try over a few weeks, that way if it stays charged then it would be the battery..good luck

Paul I would agree with Steve. If you have your battery on a trickle charger and still goes flat, I would suspect that the battery cannot hold the charge. Take it to a battery shop and ask them to test it before you buy a new one. They have a special tester which checks the amount of charge the battery is able to hold.
Regarding the immobiliser, on my car anyway, it goes to "sleep" after some time to conserve power, and it only wakes up when a breaker is activated.
Again, on my car, about 60sec after locked the fan hits in to cool the engine down, that could kill a weak battery. In any case, baterry life is about 2-3 years...

Had the same problem on my 87 targa sport. On calling the AA , the technician applied a diagnostic laptop which showed all exept my inside leg measurement! After checking out,theproblem was diagnosed as a battery fault.He then fitted a new one that i purchased for around £65.009(Bosch). PROBLEM SOLVED.
