Autostrasse Coggeshall

Other members may know this already, but I discovered today when I rang to arrange a service, that Autostrasse is closing due to the retirement of the principals. I've always had brilliant service from Autostrasse, I'm sure anyone who has used them will join in wishing them a happy retirement. Which just leaves the problem of where to go now!

Oh blow!

And in no particular order,

1. Drat, where do I build a new relationship now?
2. When?
3. What's happening to all the other guys who work there?
4. Best wishes Alan and whomever else is retiring.

I'm up in Suffolk, Bury St Edmunds so I've got Porsche Cambridge, Pie Performance, Finley Gorham, Paul Stevens and maybe some others to explore.

Never mind drat, bother, bu$$er and blow is more like!

This IS verified information and not just internet nonsense?

Well that sucks. I was about to book the Silver Bullets 3rd visit in 3 years for her MOT and Major Service :(

Well Stig911 you either get in while you can and know you've had service as good as it gets or you start again elsewhere. Major bummer - sounds like we both relied on Alan.

No can do - they close in ten days (!) and aren't taking any more bookings.
Really sorry to see them go. Called them to wish them well.
Better get cracking, my MOT runs out next week!

Likewise I wish them well though, entirely selfishly, am pretty cheesed off that they are closing.

Who now can I trust who knows one end of a 944 from another and doesn't charge like a wounded rhino?

The information I have from Alan and Ken is that Autostrasse has been sold and will close next Thursday 2nd March. Ken is retiring, but Alan had hoped to be able to carry on business with the new owner for a couple of years, but this seems increasingly unlikely. However, Alan is currently on holiday. I hope to be able to report further when both Alan and Ken are back at Autostrasse next week.

Harvey will shortly be opening a business called Colwood Motors at RM11 1XS, telephone 01708 456485. Some other independents that provide good service to PCGB members are (this is not intended to be an exhaustive list, since there are other good independents that provide excellent service especially for early 911's, 924, 944, 968 and 356 models):

HP Motorsport, Forest Road, Ilford IG6 3HX, Tel: 0208 5002510
Carrera Engineering, Unit 7, Middlebrook Industrial Estate, Hoe Lane, Nazing EN9 2RZ, Tel: 01992 892333
Pie Performance, Unit 9, Hill Farm, Brent Eleigh, CO10 9PD, Tel: 01473 760911
Paul Stephens, Sudbury Road, Little Maplestead, Halstead, CO9 2SE, Tel: 01440 714884

Of course, there is always the Porsche Centre at Colchester, Auto Way, Ipswich Road, Colchester CO4 9HA, Tel: 01206 855500.

They suggested/recommended Chris at the Cowdray Car Centre Colchester to me, going forward. Must say I've had a look at the CCC website and I'm not sure, they appear to be Bentley specialists. One of the considerations for me in running an older Porsche was that there was a quality independent Porsche specialist (Autostrasse) locally.

Ken phoned me on Friday to cancel my Boxster service that I had arranged to be done in April. Seems the closure has happened at short notice. Chris at Cowdray Car Centre has been working on Porsche for at least 15 years to my knowledge. I used him to service my 944 Turbo for many years. He is a Porsche enthusiast and owns an older 911. He started at a Rolls/Bentley dealership.

That's good to know Ray, puts my mind at ease. Not that I thought the guys at Autostrasse would give poor advice but's great to hear the same from someone else.

Alan from Autostrasse phoned me this morning. He tells me they are still operating and have no plans to close. Apparently Ken sold his share and then started phoning people for some reason, me included, and cancelling appointments. So to conclude they are still open. Ray
