Autoglym Life Treatment Thing

My 997S C2 is going to be ready for collection ready at the end of this month the OPC says..

They're saying I might like the Autoglym treatment on the car for about £350. They apply some stuff to the body work that gets baked on for 24 hours I understand. Carpets are done too.

£150 of goodies are there to take away too as part of the price.

It's silver paintwork. Is the Autoglym tratment worth having???

Nope.

There is no substitute for a regular washing and polishing regieme. You know it, so dont waste your money.

Sounds like some OPC BS designed to extract some more cash from you.A friend who works at a main dealer says a £350 treatment will net the dealer £300 profit and £100 commission to the salesman....

I can't comment on the Autoglym treatment but after extensively researching detailing on various forums I decided to go for the Zaino polymer based polish for my GT Silver 997. This requires quite a bit of effort to apply the first time (especially on the wheels) but repays with depth of gloss, longevity and ease of cleaning.

Should you decide to go down this route make sure your dealer does not treat the paint in any way as Zaino has to be applied to "naked paint" any wax has to be removed.

Cost to the OPC is under £150.00. so they make a cool £200.00+ (plus they don't have to bother with usual pre sale polish work) for making a phone call to there local Autoglym Agent who does the actual work. The effect doesn't last and if you like that just polished feel to your car there is only one way to get it "The Conventional Way"

Must say it makes me chuckle when an OPC insists you do every single thing to your car only if its Porsche Approved and preferably with a Porsche label attached to it, except when it's like this example and they can't offer anything under there own banner [] Wonder how long it will be before Porsche can get Autoglym or whoever to supply the product in "own branding packaging" which would naturally lead to even higher margins for them []

I have an arctic silver 997S with the autoglym treatment, and have to say that it does keep it looking pretty shiny and easier to clean, so am pleased with it.
Mind you, this was thrown in as a freebie treatment to help clinch the deal, so I'd badger the OPC for them to offer this to you too.
They also treat the carpet and interior (including the leather) with a scotchguard type treatment which I have to say, hasn't made much difference IMHO.
The bag of goodies is nowhere near worth £150 if you were to go out and but the items separately - the bag alone must be worth about £50 if that's to be believed, mind you perhaps with the OPC mark up....[]
The product is good, but not stunning - for that I would recommend Zymol, but then again, on a silver car, is it truly worth it?
I'm happy with mine and I wash and clean it with the supplied products regularly and they seem of good quality (mind you, the wheel cleaner has phosphoric acid in it which is being phased out and it is pretty astringent - especially to the eyes and lungs so don't breath in the vapour![:'(]).
Get them to do the decent thing and throw it in free - after all, you're writing a cheque out there for some big cash! That way you'll be content in the knowledge that you have a decent treatment for no outlay and your car will look good too.

The OPC has agreed to apply the Autoglym treatment free of charge. They won't supply the goody kit foc though. That's ok though as i've got tonnes of Maguire (?spelling) car cleaning, polishing & microfibre loin cloth stuff already.

Less than 2 weeks to collection now.

Have a look at the end of the 'First time zymol' thread as I cant see the Autoglym measuring up to those standards and I really wouldnt want an OPC baking anything on to my car.

I also wouldnt bake my car in Autoglym if you are used to using Meguire products ! as they are a better product.

and why are some OPC's recommending Autoglym and some Zymol for similar prices when one is a'middle' market product and the other 'high end'!!?? I know which one I would rather have.

I had the Permagard treatment on my new Cayman at the beginning of 2006, the cost of which is about £180 from memory. All I do is wash it every now and then and it still looks like melted glass. Since I am a hater of washing and polishing this has to be the best thing ever for me. They advise a refresher once a year.
Of course it's no good for people who like washing and polishing[]

Good to hear they threw it in for free - we picked up our new audi S4 avant from the same garage in June and got them to throw that in for free as well (they gave me the bags of goodies as well with both the 911 and the S4 so I have two now!) and I must say it does look good and gives a deep shine (it's Phantom Black pearl) which is fairly easy to keep looking good.
Of course, if you can get them to throw a Zymol treatment in then that would be preferable to Autoglym, but I have to say I'm not disappointed with the treatment, especially as it's free. Badger them for the bag of goodies - have a word with a friendly salesman and tell him how it would 'complete your purchase experience'![]

Tried that but they already had the order from me so the conversation went nowhere.

Due to pick the car up this week on Friday 29th. Can't wait. Everyone says I won't know the difference with the X51 option. They're right of course as I've never owned a 997S before & I won't remember the previous test drives in non X51 cars. I'll try posting some pictures if I can work out how to do it.

I had mine Zymol'ed when I bought my car. I also got an un-opened Porsche Zymol kit with it, all for the bargain OPC price of £468!!!

What I was thinking I have no idea as I later found the same pack online for about £130!

So given a complete after-sales Zymol treatment with labour is around £220 (I seem to recall) plus a new pack, then Porsche made a nice profit out of that little transaction.

Would NOT do it again.

So, just get the Porsche Zymol pack online and apply it yourself. You can get it somewhere like here:
