AUGUST 2009
The Hadley Bowling Green Inn on the Last Tuesday of the Month. Post Code WR9 0AR
Saturday the 8th August saw a group of ten Porsches at the VSCC 75th anniversary meeting at Malvern.
We were particularly pleased to see Trevor Gleadall, with his immaculate 356 and also welcomed Mac and Sue McLeod, Organisers of the Display Register. Unfortunately, Tevor's was the only old Porsche but at least, we did give a varied display, throughout the range. Thanks to all who made the effort.
Although this was a Vintage meeting, I felt we owed some respect, due to Porsche's actual long history back to the beginning of the 20th century, with the Lohner Porsche electric four wheel drive vehicles, some of which was reported in the May issue of Porsche Post. As far as the Vintage display, there were hundreds of magnificent vehicles to feast the eye on.
The following weekend twenty of us went canoeing at Paul Howell's base at Symonds Yat East.
We all met at the Royal Lodge Hotel for coffee and then down to the river to be kitted out with life jackets and paddles. From there, we were bussed up to Kerne Bridge, nine miles upstream, where we were given a briefing, the canoes launched and off we went.
Canadian type (Indian), aluminium canoes were used, with two "˜man' crews. A stop for lunch was planned at a pub downstream and it took us about twice as long to get there than thought. A little mix up and excitement in all embarking at the steps but eventually, we were able to enjoy lunch and a drink.
Our attempts at departure were somewhat muddled as several of us went aground and were trapped by the flow of water. Several good people, paddled out and pushed us free. Having successfully negotiated all the "˜rapids' etc., we eventually arrived back at Symonds Yat. About four hours, sitting on an aluminium seat and paddling, which put extra load upon the seat, produced a lot of aching bums. You think the AGM is bad ! And then they all went back to the Royal Lodge, and sat on wooden seats !, for more coffee.
Nevertheless, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, but would take a cushion next time. I was able to talk to Paul about a visit to his collection and it looks as though it will have to be late October or early November, so you will have to watch the Forum.
The month ended with our usual meeting at the Bowling Green, where some prizes were distributed for solving some puzzles I took. One being to identify a piston from a Tiger Moth engine.
Finally. a small group of us met at the Pershore Plum Festival and displayed our cars along with about a hundred other classics.
On Sunday the 4th October, the "˜Breakfast Club' at Cosford. Adam Fradgley has posted some information on the website or forum. We need to know if you wish to come, so we can preserve space on site. Breakfast is served 9am to 10.30am. Arrive before 9.30 after 10 you have to pay for parking.
At 10.30am, I have also arranged a visit to the County Air Ambulance Station at Cosford. As reported last month. So far we are not fully booked, ie 10 maximum
Forthcoming Events.
October 4th Late call for Breakfast Club and Air Ambulance visit.
October / November, watch the forum or website for visit to Paul Howells'
I hope all your cars were mint at Polo !
John Lord.
