Augment ECU on a 944 Turbo

I'm looking for a little more power from my 944 Turbo. I was going to go down the Promax chipping route initially but was pointed to the Augment ECU upgrade. Any one fitted one of these to a Turbo? If so would you recommend?

Budget?

What model do you have - 220 or 250? and is it standard? Is everything running well? no boost leaks?

You can get good gains, particularly in the midrange, from just a chip and a boost enhancer. Very cheap.

Next step up is dual port wastegate & manual boost control (or EBC) - and a fresh headgasket [:D]

I have no doubt that Tom's ECU will be great - some very positive reports on here. To get the best from it you will probably want a DPW and better boost control anyway.

It's 220 bhp model and pretty much standard. Engine was recently overhauled with new valves, Wildfire headgasket, lightened and balanced flywheel plus all vacuum hoses replaced with silicon. It's just missing that little bit of urgency for me in terms of mid range pick up.

Agree with edh comments.

From experience, a Promax L2 kit (and Headgasket [;)]) plus a boost gauge, is a great improvement on a standard car.

Also, a Perfectbore engine, ball bearing hybrid turbo and Klauss Hoffman chips is a bit better, but a lot more costly, add a 3" D/P and exhaust and it improves another 15%. Weakest area of this set-up is the ECU as the air delivery of the BB turbo is way ahead of what the chips are assuming at low rpm.

Finally, not my car, but having seen an Augtronic install and the results of 2 hours mapping on the road I am very impressed. So good we could return on our 500 mile journey to Stranraer and Ireland from Gloucestershire and never miss a beat. Better mpg too. There is a major hidden advantage in this approach IMO as the AFM which is a wearing part , expensive (and has failed on me on 2 occasions), is replaced with a MAP sensor. In summary this ECU brings the 944 engine management art froward 30 years.

The best option is undoubtedly the last one, but the L2 kit was the benchmark, moderate turnkey modification for many years.

I've got Augment stuff on my car. I've bought the ECU and MAP kit with a D/P wastegate, 3bar FPR, "honey badger" turbo which is essentially a K26 hybrid. The software is great and Tom has been a huge help in sorting me out. The car's due back for mapping and EBC along with bigger injectors in the coming months but so far I can't really fault it.

I'm not a turbo driver but have seen one of Tom's setups on one and know the (long term) owner was very impressed with it on track.
