A very big thank you to the following;
Kenny Robinson for organising the day, even though he couldn't be there to enjoy the experience.
Aston Martin Silverlink of course, for providing three brand new V8 Vantage cars and experienced co-pilots, along with hospitality and no sales pressure.
Greg and Deb for being there all day to look after the R3 flock, and to take a late-in-the-day drive after we had all had our fun.
The ever present Dave and Amy Carnefin (sp) who provide great support to Greg and Deb.
A very enjoyable and different day, which you wouldn't get with most car clubs. Would I (or you) buy a V8 Vantage? I spent a bit of Sunday evening looking at You-tube reviews of them, and I agree with most of them.....

"I would like to thank everyone who attended our ride and drive event on the 17th of Feb at the Aston Martin Dealership, it was a great turn out and a fantastic opportunity for us to speak with people we havenāt ever seen in the dealership before. We thank you for taking time out of your weekends to come and drive the New Vantage and give us some great feedback. I would like to extend the welcome simply to anyone who is passing the dealership to pop in for a tea or coffee, whilst our main goal is to sell Aston Martinā we do often get Porscheā that come in part exchangeā.
You are all a credit to the Porsche brand and honestly speaking I think you all do more for Porsche as owners, than some of the dealers themselves. I wish we had an owners club run by people as proactive as yourselves."
Obviously we already knew you guys would do our Club and the marque proud, hence why we had no reservations in organising this event. As you all know Porsche is a lifestyle choice not just about the badge.

I would just like to echo John's remarks regarding the day - a brilliant way to spend a couple of hours checking out the opposition. The cars themselves were fantastic with no restrictions and the route we drove gave a good impression of their capabilities. Not as agile as a Porsche perhaps but still deeply impressive. The biggest compliment to the dealership is how āTeeside-yā they made us feel. Who could say anything bad about an hour spanking someone elseās new car with the hospitality thrown in today.
I notice that Peter Richardson at RPR626 has an early previous gen model in for about Ā£27k, not that Iāve been looking or owt . . .

'Us too' regarding the complimentary comments on the Aston comparison day. A different, useful and enjoyable day. As an owner of both marques (previous gen V8 Vantage, but not a member of AMOC as no organisation could beat R3) the new Vantage eclipses mine in power and ride (but not looks). However, neither are as invovling as a manual boxed 911!

Thank you so much for the event, the hospitality was second to none. Iāve never been into an Aston Martin dealership let alone been given the opportunity to drive one, and it was much less intimidating than I had imagined. A bit like the first time I went into a Porsche dealership (and walked out having ordered a 911).
I liked the Vantage, but loved the drive home in my 911. The Vantage had great road presence (the shape and colour helped). The sound of that V8 is truly spine tingling, and in a straight line, the Vantage was very impressive. Itās a very civilised car, but I felt that the PDK in a 911 shifted a tad faster than the 8 speed ZF box. Other than that, if money was no object, I would definitey have to tick that Aston Martin box at some point. The biggest problem with the brand is depreciation. It will be interesting to see if the new Vantage can buck the trend.

It was a superb afternoon and many thanks to all involved in setting it up.
I did ask Austin if we could go towards Calais rather than Morpeth if I paid for the petrol and dropped him off at Gaydon on the way, but he muttered something about a P45 and insisted we go north.
They have come a long way since the MB link up and it is a worthy competitor to the 992. Be good to do a direct comparison. I wonder if AM would let me take one to the OPC launch party!
