Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Dunlop Sport Maxx Race :) and as I am not spending daft money all in one go, putting the PS2 over from the Spyder to the R and ditching the new Pirelli which are on there. and have a geo on both. I see the OPC bill is not going to be small for all that, but not easy swapping over tyres and wheels and also a set of new tyres and 2 geo's all at once. I am also increasing the front track 14mm and fitting SS black bolts to finish the look off. with max from camber on oem LCA and race maxx tyres and the 14 mm wider front track, it should be loads more fun on dry roads and my local round abouts. PS2 is quite a nice tyre always had them, just the Super sports is much much better now , but not buying Race Maxx and Super sports in one go. if any one is fitting new tyres and does not want r spec Pilot super sports ARE the tyre to have on your sports car. So the spyder will be sorted and the R will have the PS2 and neg -1 camber (or max what ever they can get) on the front with no toe. if the 14mm wider front track works i'll do it to both cars. then it's just a case of doing the GT3 master cylinder on the R with new pads a SS lines as I feel they lack what my Spyder has with PCCB. of course both cars have the GT3 brake ducts now :) up early today, cleaned the R and took the Spyder out for a spin, both looking clean and sweet, motoring does not get any better than this :) I would take both these cars over 1 new GT3 no problem, but I do seem to be upsetting the apple cart on Piston heads with my lack of GT3 worship. PRIZE TO ANYONE WHO NOTICES WHAT'S NEW AND MORE UP TO DATE ON THE R

ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Gone for the subtle look. Go faster ribbons. Mirrors were a good call but the florist down the road had less than 4m of white ribbon left and it was just short!

Right gearbox wrong seats for my back sadly !!

Dylan Without stating the obvious have you tried both ? I also suffer from lower back problems and i was very wary when i first drove one and after a short time i did not find any discomfort at all in fact the opposite very snug . The getting out can be a bit awkward especially for a female passenger not very lady like some times but i slide the seat fully back and getting out is so much easier the same goes for entering the car . I am a only about 5.9" short legs and sit close to the wheel in order to fully depress the clutch .Tonight i put a foam cushion under the Atcantara seat cover as shown in one of the posts and that helps me sit higher up and i get a better driving position . The sports seats are more forgiving i would imagine . Brian

The buckets are better for a bad back imo. so he keeps making money on both his Spyders, cannot knock that.

Must say the "heated" seats are very user friendly when my back is playing up and the Spyder was my first ever car with hot chairs which I now have on my daily driver for the first time too As much as I would love to have the buckets I am equally happy to have hot chairs for those bad back days He certainly has done well with his sale but what can you buy with the money that is going to be so much car[:-]

Thanks MrD. Do you think Porsche want to fit a more 'all weather' tyres to the non-GTn & RS cars? Perhaps it's because they don't pitch the cars as 'single purpose'. But you do have a good point though: 1.) The Spyder & R have a more focussed purpose so would suit a more focussed tyre. 2.) They could offer alternative N rated uprated tyre. But does the latter require other components to be uprated (or wear quicker) due to higher lateral grip forces? What kind of rubber do other manufacturers put on similar level cars? Is it the tax disc that differentiates your R from your Spyder?[:)]

Thanks guys Yes I did try buckets on a Porsche experience day in a 997 and yes I did find them snug !! Not so easy to get out of but also when the lower back really dodge the heated seats are brilliant really help so couldn't do without bearing in mind I love to keep the roof down unless heavy rain!!!

Most high end sports cars use pilot super sports. These should be standard on all Porsche imo. No idea why these are not Porsche fitment, it's crazy. The new 991 gt3 was and has been seen wearing the race maxx tyre, will be interesting to see what it comes with. No , not tax disk, but you only need 1 if you own two cars the same, just use the same plate on both cars :)

I think the tyres had a significant influence in this test. If a sport tyre fitment was available to the Cayman R, we'd have really been able to see how close it could get. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcPh4XaU1H0 http://www.caranddriver.com/features/the-mid-vs-rear-engine-debate-porsche-cayman-r-vs-911-gt3-feature So how come there's no tax disc holder on the Spyder? I can't spot anything else[8|][:)]

I don't use the Spyder much , so just carry the disk in my pocket. As you note I have the smallest holder for the cayman, they are ugly at the end of the day. And hate seeing these massive dealer tax disk holders. The cayman I had converted to new design aero wipers. I have a set on order for the Spyder. They just look so modern imo and of course work better. Again another thing Porsche set stuck in the ark with. Also loads lighter :p

I hate tests and it winds me up reading them, as geo and tyres makes or breaks a test. How can you put a cup tyre car with double the camber vs a road tyre car with min neg camber !!! Do they think we are stupid ffs, only tests worth reading are cars with the same tyres.
