Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Back to your original post - now only 2 Spyders for sale at OPCs today!!
And now there's only 1 Rob. Would be nice to hear of some of them ending up with club members but that never seems to be the case, well, not members who come on the forum anyway.

Interestingly exactly 2 months ago there were 15 Spyders for sale via the OPC's! Looks like the coffee has been well and truly smelt for now at least :ROFLMAO: No wonder that very low miles 2011 example was pulled from the "members for sale" recently Off to enjoy mine now in the fabulous weather we have here today [8D]

Just the red car left at Nottingham. Almost identical spec to mine save for the colour and the painted roll over hoops. One of the very earliest cars too - March 2010. Perfect day for Spydering. Early morning mist finally being burned away by the sunshine. Have fun!

Drove the Red Nottingham car last week! Totally smitten now! Good spec and just missing the Heated Sports seats. I doubt this will be on the market for long - I watched people walk into the show without exception they all headed for Spyder. Most were then steered elsewhere by the wife. When we walked into the showroom I headed for the Gents - when I came out my wife (who had not seen a Spyder before) said she really liked the look of the car in the Centre of the showroom. Guess which one that was? So what colours were available? I've seen Red,Silver,White, Blue and Black.

They certainly attract attention wherever you go, not a car for the shy. Think you have listed the full house of colours in the UK. There were a couple with paint to sample in the USA but none over here that I'm aware of.

Hi John, As Rob says, you have covered them in the main. Guards Red Carrara White Black Basalt Black Metallic Platinum Silver Metallic Aqua Blue Metallic and Special Colour (read 'standard but at extra cost'), Cream White. I think it could work with a Cocoa Brown interior, despite not being a racy colour for a Spyder, unless it really does look as pinkish as in these poor quality pics! http://gtcarlot.com/gallery/29121514.html http://gtcarlot.com/gallery/29121566.html The most daring combination of standard colours is probably this one, which I do like. http://teamspeed.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=99136&stc=1&d=1333505007 This Riviera Blue example is probably the most renowned bespoke car in the Spyder community. http://www.dspyda.com/Spyder_Gallery/Pages/Riviera_Blue_PTS.html You won't regret it if you get it. You will be obliged to wave back to your adoring fans in your community. They will shower you with praise, kids and adults alike [8D] . I never received this much attention in my Guards red Cayman (my Spyder is a less attention grabbing Carrara White). You will spoil yourself with a driving experience that will be hard to surpass at this price point. Exclusivity at this price point is a big bonus too.

As flat6 says prepare to make lots of new petrolhead friends and this just possibly may be the only Spyder Boxster Porsche will ever make!

Apologies, forgot to respond to your post earlier - yours looks well in that photo although I would say that as it looks identical to mine! What do you about the OCD vicious circle regarding cleaning your wheels? You know the routine - wash the car and wheels, take the car out to dry the brakes, the inside of the wheels are now dirty again with all the gunk that came off the brakes, repeat etc. I gave mine a good clean last Sunday and just as I finished the rain came down and I put it straight in the garage in the hope it was just a shower. This was a mistake. By Thursday it had finally stopped raining so I took it to work and boy were the rusty discs unhappy at first!

Flat6 - not sure about that cream white? Blue with red leather is an acquired taste too. There is a pretty ghastly American one that tries to look like a 911 CS (a car I really like) - white with red wheels and a red stripe - that doesn't really work for me either.

Rob the secret of my success is very simple "I have never get the car wet or dirty" I never put the car away after a blast without hand washing the wheels with a slightly soapy bucket of warm water followed by a quick leather off. So there is no hosing or jet washing of the alloys-brakes etc so no need to go for a quick spin dry job Same technique applies to the bodywork but with plain warm water and leather off after. Again no jetting or hosing as car never has more than light fine dust due to it being a dry fine weather queen and further more since taking delivery back in Feb 2011 the sun cap has never been on the car once! Hmm... I thought Chamois leathers are banned on here, if you ever even mention them on the Detailing World forum your account would be permanently deleted! Microfibre cloths are the default choice now! I have however now invested in a genuine PCGB wheel cleaning brush which stops my knuckles from bleeding when cleaning the insides of the Spyder wheels (which inevitably happened each and every time). I do rinse the wheels off with a hose though. I have only ever used the Zymol car cleaning stuff which is hideously expensive but it looks and smells nice and seems to do a good job.

I'm no doubt in the minority, running a Spyder as a daily driver and so will struggle to keep my car as clean as yours, despite regularly cleaning it[:)]. I want to get my money's worth out of it, but will be gutted if I pick up any damage. Parking in the end bay in car parks so that I can park 12 inches outside space and well away from the next car. Hanging back in traffic to avoid stone chips[:D]. It's going well. I pretty much use it as I would any other 987. It’s as tough as old boots. It’s my first convertible and I would’ve never considered a convertible before (and probably won’t again until they launch another exotic. I prefer coupes in general). The middle bit, body and interior - standard Boxster, tough as old boots. The top bit - the roof. Keeps the weather out with a genius design that uses a combination overlapping 2 parts and achieves a lapping over the windows, without a frame. Tough as old boots. In 10 years when i'm still running the car, i'll be able to install a new roof myself in minutes[:D]. A power roof would need a professional installer and take hours[:D]. The bottom bit, the suspension. Less to go wrong than with PASM shockers I guess - tough as old boots. I look through the crystal clear rear window and see the driver behind discussing with their passenger the unusual rear end they are viewing and I sometimes lip read them say "Boxster Spyder" as they stretch up to look down toward the badge and read it to work out what the heck this car is. My 20 mile commute to work has half the journey on the motorway. Maybe i've become immune to the extra noise, but the Sound Package Plus is more than a match for it, if you like loud music[:)]. That said, the PCM phone handles it well also and I can hold a conversation on the motorway. Tyre roar was significantly loud in the Cayman, so I guess i've never expected tranquillity. The Cayman has a good looking rear end, with a hatch that is as practical as it is perfectly formed, to give the 987 a coupe body, whilst maintaining a tight curvature along the roofline. The Boxster shape was not for me over a Cayman, but the Spyder was a different proposition. At some point in the future I hope to promote it to garage queen, but i'd need another Porsche to enjoy on the bad weather days[:D]

Yeah they have some horrible bespoke examples in the US and i'm not talking about Porsche Exclusive. I saw a black and orange one.[:'(] Even the door pulls had been replaced with ghastly orange material. The red and white one is ghastly also.[:'(] http://teamspeed.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=66065&stc=1&d=1299508299

That picture should have a "not suitable for work" warning. I was nearly sick! [:'(][:'(][:'(]

I take my "sun cap" off to Flat6 you are certainly in a very unique club with a Spyder but one being used daily is EXTRA ordinary! If you treat her like I do my daily driver i.e. keep cleaning it after every filthy day out and even if the weather is set poor for an entire week or weeks then wash the crap off every single day you won't be that far behind my pampered example or my mint daily driver but you may be a little more personally washed out :ROFLMAO:
