Are 911's child friendly???

Hi All
I'm a currently a 987 Boxster S owner and was planning to get a 2006/7 997 C2S in the next few months, I'd be using it everyday for the commute
However the wife now has 'one in the oven' and whilst I am pleased on the one hand I am less so on the other as I can see my life long dream of owning a 911 slipping away :(
I can say this as she'll never read this ;)
Our other car is a 3-series so I am hoping we'll be able to use that when 'baby' arrives and requires driving but I wanted to ask if any of you 911 owners have been through the same situation and how you managed with a baby and a 911??
I have seen the Porsche pram and noticed it is only recommended for the 2 wheel drive, not the 4 models
So any help or advice you can give would me would be much appreciated
Many Thanks

okay i faced this problem also, i had moved up from a lotus exige at the time as there was no chance of me being allowed out the house with the baby in that car, i had always been after a 911 so decided to go and have a look. I went and decided to go for it.

My findings are this:

Yes you can fit the baby in the front in a rear facing seat but you have to deactivate the airbags, easy done just a short visit to porsche or a porsche specalist. They can also fit in the back but its a squeeze so best in the front.

Once the baby gets a bit older i.e. when they are allowed away from mothers sight and feeding routines you can fit them in, there is a particular seat that you need to buy that fits right in the back, plenty of room etc and safe for the kids. you can fit two of them if need be.

In the front compartment i have the quinny buggy as that fits a treat. loads of them on ebay.

All in all, yes its a squeeze but its what i would call enjoyable. My wife doesnt really come out in the car but that said we have an x5 for the kids and dogs which she drives. The porsche is mostly a fun car that is a daily driver. If youve never owned one then i suggest that before the kids get more grown up and cost more money i would go for it, even if its only for a couple of years. well worth it, they are a driving pleasure and one that each time you step in the cabin you realise how lucky you are.

I am at the end of ownership of mine so if you are looking let me know. comes with all the kit you need.

Yeh front seat only until 9 months when they can sit facing forward and you can put the seat in the back...

I personally wouldn't have a 911 as the primary child transporter car though - you need something bigger for every day.

We got one before the kids got too big. All 4 of us have been out in my 997 C4s. The oldest is nearly 5, so he goes in the front with me if its the two of us (got the airbag and isofix points on the front seat) or he goes on a booster in the back (a Graco Hi Life booster from Halfords fits in nicely in the back). For the baby (9 weeks) we have an old Porsche baby seat which I used in a Boosxter, but it fits neatly in the back seat. - You do need the front seat a bit further forward, luckily my wife is small!

So yes a good car for the trips out where you don't necessarily need a pram ( we have a Discovery for those trips!). Highly recommended and we got ours whilst they were little.

Hope that helps

I personally wouldn't allow a sprog anywhere near a 911 - and I speak from bitter experience.

Two of mine thought there was nothing better than climbing up on the bonnet of mine in their muddy boots.

Happened not once or twice but three times during their early years.

Deportation came to mind at the time

Mine are 6 and 8 now and shortish trips are fun for the four of us although the 6 year old makes me switch the pse off! I couldn't honestly recommend a 997 as the primary mode of transport for a family but if you have a second, larger car then absolutely. The rear seats are perfectly usable for small kids although with a baby the mrs will end up in the back! Hope all goes well with the new arrival.

My two youngsters are 13 and 15 and they still both fit in my 911. My son is 6ft and goes in the front, my daughter 5' 2" in the back. it's a squeeze for my daughter but fine for trips of 10 or 20 miles and certainly for picking them up from the station etc. No room for 4 fully grown people though. If my wife's along we take her Subaru (no hardship).

Great!! Thanks everyone
Phew!!!....Looks like my dream is still alive!!
As the Mrs has a 3-Series and will be on maternity for the first year we'll use hers and I'll keep mine for the commute and dashes to Mothercare/Boots :)

Then when she's gone back to work the baby should be a bit bigger and maybe I can use the Porsche baby seat in the back when needed

Happy Days!!!
