Anyone got a view?

There's one available at Strasse for slightly more money as well, http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/motorsport/race-cars/tin-tops/porsche-944-s2-race-car/641540

First car is or was Fraser Robertson's class 2 car. It looked like a decent car but at Brands he had running problems with it and asked to swap various parts between our cars. It had fried the ECU he had and was just dumping fuel. If the electrical problems have been fixed it must surely be a fairly sound car as he put in some strong performances in it. Second car is Ben Demetrious outfit but I don't ever recall him racing a black S2? Don't know anything about this car or who built it, might have been Summit racing or in house? That is not necessarily a bad thing btw as it may have had a much easier life than a car that has been raced hard for several years. The last one looks like Chris Dyer's Championship winning car, the Strasse guys really know what there doing and its a fast car for sure with a solid finishing record.

For the money IMHO Chris Dyers old car (if that is what it is) looks the safest bet, but none of those seem like bad cars.

As with all these things anyone contemplating buying a second hand race car really needs to look very carefully over what they are buying into, building up my car took a long time and a stupid amount of money to get to where it is now but I know the state of the thing inside out and could never get the "right" car second hand (Keiran Brewers S2 would have been very very close though).

Interesting info Neil, many thanks. I thought you'd be able to help! I have had a look at the Strasse cars on their web site and therefore their original advert. It doesn't say much more than the PH advert, however, under their "motorsport" tab there is some more back ground info about all their racing activities and photos but the 944 isn't really featured; the one in the advert is predominantley white with an orange stripe, whilst the ones on their web site are predominantley orange with a white stripe! That said the Orange/ white 944 S2 in the pictures (driven by a phil Ward) is also a #91, same as the white/ orange one in the advert. Not sure whether its the same car or not.

Not sure I can justify £10K whilst I still have the Toyota. Hmmmm. Also thinking about a Ginetta g20 - simple, cheap, and quite quick, but I have always had a hankering for a race 944.....

Paul Ward has been driving Chris's old car this year, yes. If he sees this thread he may chip in hopefully.

Edited to say I also looked at g20's for a while, lovely looking car and very capable but a lot of them seem to be being dumped on the market as racers move on to the g40. I reckoned the car could run elsewhere but would likely be up against caterfield type cars that may be much faster. The g40 though definitely one to watch in the future, faster round donny than Pete Morris's lap record in the 968. Pretty incredible for a car with 150 Bhp running on the same Michelin cup tyres.

944 S2 would make the perfect 360 car I reckon Andy.

The g20 is actually faster than the g40 on the same tyres. Ginetta actually handicapped the g20 in the Ginetta challenge by making it run on treaded list 1a tyres compared to the g40 slicks, even though the g40 also has a sequential box. The g20 will probably be eligible for CSCC series next year (not m7!). Watch this space ;-). G20s are good cheap club race cars with good spares availability. A g20 is high on my list of options.

Wow in that case it could be a great way to go as I would be amazed if it didn't cost a lot less to run as a race/track car than the 944. Tempted myself even, such a lovely pretty looking little car. Andy which series would you run them in if not the Mag7's?

Neil, it was announced at Donington that DM has to change to try to get bigger grids, that will happen and it will become multi marque not limited to german origin. Basically Future Classics for a different era. The DM cars will still be eligible but closer control of aero. Full details are still being discussed but yours truly will be the co ordinator!
