Anybody know any gas struts that work ?

Does anybody know who sells gas struts that are actually strong enough to hold up the front lid on an Early 911 ?

I've changed mine twice but I'm still being hit on the back of the head []!

On a few occasions I've resorted to the umbrella technique . . . sorry that's not the answer you wanted.

They always seem to appear on ebay . . . .

I bought some after market ones, they work when its warm, as soon as we get a cold spell they give up. I went to AFN Reading and bought Porsche items, lost of money, but I did here that Autofarm do ones that work.

might I suggest a solution? take your old knackered struts make sure they are fully extended, then drill a hole through the housing, not the ram itself (you'll need access to a meaty pillar drill and obligatory goggles to do this). You will then be able to insert a nail or a dowel through the hole to prop your struts open, remove the nail and they drop again. This is so effective you can use just one knackered strut saving you ounces of weight!

Matthew at type911 sells heavy duty front struts manufactured by Weltmeister and I promise you these work.

I bought a set of standard ones from him and they were a waste of time - he apologised for the fact he didn't pick up on them being for an early car and replaced them straight away.
