Another one bites the dust?

Very sorry to read about your bad news, if your car is able to be repaired and you want her back - fight the insurers, I recently purchased a 2001 CLk 320 for the station run, after only 3 days some nice person drove into it in in our communal car park at night and drove off!! £2600 damage a write off,(new door, wing offside respray) I fought the insurance co. and I even had the car repaired at my garage rather than there approved repairer so it can be done. Best of luck and I hope the outcome is the one of your choice.

Cheers guys I appreciate all the well wishes, it's what makes the forum so great (group hug everyone) [:)] The car is booked into the local Porsche approved place on Monday but my main fear is at their prices the bill will soon outweigh the value of the car and it will be written off. Paul Mcnulty and Steve Kevlin at the Club have been great with an up to date valuation so we shall see what happens. I've already turned down a courtesy car to keep the overall cost down and I don't really need one anyway. My bodyshop 'colleague' who did the restoration and full respray in back March has had a look and says it's an easy repair with just two panels needed and some jig work, so he's my backup plan if I can get the insurance company to work with him (he's not approved). After that I've also had offers of help from Darren at RPM, Elliot at Porkaparts and Andy at Promax (where she was booked in for this years service next week ). If worse comes to the worse then I'll buy the salvage and get her repaired with whatever payout is haggled over and using some of the parts you guys have offered - Cheers guys. Gave her a damn good clean inside and out this morning so at least she looks stunning for the inspection on Monday [8D]

I hope that this turns out well. I suspect thatt therell be a lot of f*cking about before the correct outcome is reached. Simon

Despite what your insurance company might say you are perfectly entitled to take your car to a garage of your choice to have it repaired.

Within reason, yes. The problem is that the insurers will only pay for repairs using new parts, obviously this is ridiculous with something like a a rear bumper, but it can easily write a car off. Hopefully this case will have a better outcome because the valuation is significantly higher than most. Firstly it's an exceptional car, but more importantly it's actually GOT a valuation! I'd imagine the first offer would have been around the £2K mark if there was nothing to warrant them offering more.

In my first reply Id written suggested £1,800. Such a fustrating proposition that I deleted it all and settled for 'I hope thast it turns out well'.

The strange thing is that we'd probably all come up with a figure in line with insurers if we were being brutally honest about other people's cars. Why, then, do we all hide our heads in the sand, hope we'll never need to claim, but if we do we get all angry and say ours is worth £10K but we couldn't be bothered to get it valued? [&:] At least this time the car has a valuation, so hopefully it'll be possible to repair it through the insurer. Failing that, it's going to be a well-documented car with a decent repair by the owner, so will hold more value than most.

really sorry to hear this .[&o] especially at christmas time. Its something i guess we all dread every day. After 15 x years my S2 managed to get herself 'keyed' a few weeks ago and I cannot for the life of me think where it could have happened. i'm so careful. The problem with rear-enders on a 944 is the intricatly shaped rear valance where the decal sits. Once that is crumpled its expensive to cut out and replace. My first baby suffered that indignity and was scapped although it still drove perfectly. Hope you get the work done. its becoming increasingly hard to find a sound 944S2 these days.

Not a good situation to be in but fight them all the way I was T bonned in my Stratros replica some years back, despite the chassis being undamaged the insurance wanted to write it off and give me a misrible sum of money, took 8 months but with the help of the internet and independent valuations I got a very good settlement in cash for me to have the car repaired by who i wanted. You have to dig your heals in Good luck

I hate threads like this ... Makes me want to hurl... Sorry to hear this Paul.. Dealing with insurance companies is a stressful affair... I know a fellow with a 91 Lexus LS400 who had it written off over a damaged passenger side door and wingmirror.. He got hit by a Daewoo Lanos.... ! He had to buy it off the insurance company and fix it himself ! Well him and eBay...! No doubt Paul she will be back on the road and as good as new [;)]

Sorry to hear this My Wife had a small shunt in her Scirroco many years ago, just as we had got it perfect (it was a Deep-Red F reg GT) We got an excellent payout and bought a K Reg GT II to replace it which we thought was a real result...but it wasn't anywhere near as good and cost a fortune, I really wish I had bought the salvage and repaired the original

Paul, When the insurance does finally pay out, surely you use the money to fit a bigger exhaust on your 3.2, and then just run that car as your daily beast. If you're man enough, that is[;)]

I did exactly that with my Scirocco, I had a deer go over the roof.

Heard nothing from the insurance company in over a week so called to chase them. They've received the estimate from the bodyshop so at least we know it's repairable. Now their assessor/engineer has to decide on the cars value and then give the go ahead to repair or not. I'm taking the 'no news is good news' approach as I've had two claims with insurance companies before (over 15and 20 years ago for two stolen/recovered cars) and they made up their mind to reject the repairs and write them off almost immediately they were assessed.

Good luck with this Paul, after having seen just how much a wrecked race car can be repaired this may well turn out surprisingly well. Fingers crossed.

Got the car back home in the garage tonight, but it's turning in to one of those long sagas that I dreaded it would be. I called the bodyshop for an update on Wednesday and they said the good news was they'd been given the go ahead to repair it. [:)] Unfortunately when they started stripping it down they found further damage which doubled their estimate to the insurance company. Today the insurance assessor called me and said they couldn't go ahead at the new price and wanted to write her off, so I exercised my right to take the car to my own preferred repairer (whose labour rate is a 3rd of Porsches). With Christmas coming up I doubt any further progress will be made until the new year so she's staying in my garage for the time being. It was very reassuring when we collected her that the bodyshop manager said we were doing the right thing, he hadn't seen a 944 in this condition for a long time and it would be a crime to scrap her. He said it was a very simple and straight forward repair but at their rates no insurance company would approve it. Watch this space.....

hiya all, paul so sorry to hear of your bad news, sounds like you escaped unscathed which is the only postive i imagine, so bloody frustrating, all the best with the claim, once again sorry but glad your ok regards jason p
