another one bites the dust?

Good luck with this Paul, after having seen just how much a wrecked race car can be repaired this may well turn out surprisingly well. Fingers crossed.

Got the car back home in the garage tonight, but it's turning in to one of those long sagas that I dreaded it would be. I called the bodyshop for an update on Wednesday and they said the good news was they'd been given the go ahead to repair it. [:)] Unfortunately when they started stripping it down they found further damage which doubled their estimate to the insurance company.

Today the insurance assessor called me and said they couldn't go ahead at the new price and wanted to write her off, so I exercised my right to take the car to my own preferred repairer (whose labour rate is a 3rd of Porsches). With Christmas coming up I doubt any further progress will be made until the new year so she's staying in my garage for the time being. It was very reassuring when we collected her that the bodyshop manager said we were doing the right thing, he hadn't seen a 944 in this condition for a long time and it would be a crime to scrap her. He said it was a very simple and straight forward repair but at their rates no insurance company would approve it.

Watch this space.....

hiya all, paul so sorry to hear of your bad news, sounds like you escaped unscathed which is the only postive i imagine, so bloody frustrating, all the best with the claim, once again sorry but glad your ok regards jason p

Just read on the other thread that LIL has been dismantled and the engine put into something else.

What's the news on your S2 Paul? Was she a total write-off? Does this mean you are now 944-less?

No, she only needed work to the rear wing and a new bumper and after lots of negotiation regarding values the insurance company agreed to the repair at the local Porsche bodyshop. Unfortunately they then bumped up the price and the insurance would not pay so I removed the car to the place that did the restoration last year. They quoted half the price for the same repair and started work three weeks ago.

I hope to get her back next week [:D] but I will be missing Rutland [&o]
