Another Nail in the Coffin for ICE 718 Cayman Production in Europe?

So it seems that the ICE Macan will still be available here then Andrew? There’s still hope for the ICE Cayman to be available in the UK then!

Jeff

It'll be interesting to see if the Cayman does indeed continue. The language in the Autocar article only refers to 2024 for the Macan, so it may only be a temporary stay of execution.

I wonder if it's documented anywhere that the UK will not apply the EU rules re. cybersecurity so that all manufacturers will be able to continue to supply existing models?

Yes, something to ponder Dave. Mind you, the lot that [allegedly!] are in charge here seem to be keen to distinguish the UK from EU regulations post-Brexit, so you never know. However, as Andrew has indicated I suspect that ultimately it will be down to Blume to decide upon the business case … i.e. will ICE Cayman production be profitable.

Jeff

With the more advanced electric infrastructure I would have thought that demand for ICE would fall off nore quickly in Europe, so Porsche may be making these announcements as a political positioning statement, accepting the inevitable shift to the new EV Macan that people are waiting for. In the UK I suspect that the shift to EV will be slower. The depreciation on EV's is making PPI rates a bit of a lottery and the infrastructure sucks. Porsche can use the UK as a run out for the Macan (and Cayman?).

Having said that, I don't think I will be buying a new ICE Porsche at this point. I plan to keep the one I have, without all the GPS tracking, lane guidance, speed limiters etc.

I think if they can keep on churning out the more expensive 4.0 models, including the RSs, to the UK and RoW then there has to be money in it. Doesn't mean they'll do it though!

I'm with you John. When I bought my GT4 I suspected it would be my forever car so I specced it accordingly. I'm blummin' glad I did now as I'm almost certain it'll be my forever car as long as I can get petrol and insurance!

I think all the manufacturers are struggling to sell cars - new and used - right now Alan, Porsche included, and the Taycan especially. Your guess is as good as mine as to where used car values are going, but with component supply improving I would imagine that the bubble has burst on high-priced used cars.

Just my tuppence worth of course.😉

Hi Jeff

I agree with you that the price bubble may have burst. I have been monitoring the Porsche Approved website for a little while and they seem to have a fair turnover of Boxsters/Caymans every month, at least at present. However its also interesting that the total number of Caymans for sale never seems to vary by much on their site. Deliberate restricting the number of cars on offer in order to support OPC prices?
