Or because they or a competent friend/professional have checked and KNOW what it will fail on. If you have the test these faults will then be officially recorded for anyone with the V5 or ticket number to see online !
I love the number of reasons people have for not having MOT'd a car.
If it's been SORNED for a long time it might not have had a spanner on it for ages.
If anyone here buys it to break, please let me know as I could use some bits off it, what with it being a twin of my car ((barring the interior).

Whilst I'd agree that a new MOT is pretty essential to get the best price, we all know how often we've seen people wrongly assume a car with an MOT is a good one, so it's not the be all and end all of buying a used car. Just like a bit of rust on a 20-year-old car isn't uncommon; it's how much rust that's important!

it remains bad marketing.
I totally agree, just think this is the second time people have jumped on a car for sale trying to find problems we don't actually know are even there. Personally I'd get the thing MOT'd before even thinking of selling, but not having one doesn't automatically equate to a string of impending failures or advisories. Just as a valid MOT doesn't point to a safe buy.
Why is no-one criticising the white Turbo in the other thread? That only has a couple of months MOT so why hasn't the seller got a fresh one? Is it because it's about to fall apart? I don't know so I wouldn't accuse the seller of trying to hide problems.
I'm not trying to be all grumpy here, only wondering why all of a sudden we seem to be pessimistic about every car that's advertised. Different if it's obviously a complete shed, but I can't actually see a massive issue with this one. I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and at least ask the seller some questions or view the car before knocking it. [
It is sooo easy to give a proper maintenance history and take decent photographs of fault areas that you are going to mention, you don't get charged extra by Pistonheads.

Actually, Paul, no-one is being down on the car. Some of us are being down on the advert - and justifiably
Hi Simon,
I'm not particualarly picking on this thread or anyone on it, more the fact that it's come up so soon after people layed in to Wil's car without knowing anything of the car, the seller or his reasons for selling.
Comments on this advert, whether meant to refer to the car, the ad or the seller?
Because they suspect they will fail......
Or because they or a competent friend/professional have checked and KNOW what it will fail on
IT CAN'T BE A FINEST EXAMPLE IF ITS RUSTY !
Now please don't jump on me here, understand that I'm in no way trying to single anyone out by quoting the above, just trying to get across that we might be better off saying the same thing in a positive way, rather than the slighlty negative way I read the comments here. There's no suggestion in the ad that the car has major MOT-failing issues or anything other than very light corrosion. Should we be suggesting otherwise, I don't know and I'm prepared to be wrong! [
With my Admin hat on for a change, we've always tried to encourage the Club forum (you can't force it) to be two things. Firstly, welcoming to all users regardless of their on-line experience or ability. Posting in the wrong forum isn't laughed at, inability to post pictures, use the search, that sort of thing. Secondly, we have tried not to get in to the Pistonheads mentality where every trader is a con-artist, every car is about to blow up, every new poster with a dumb, but innocent, question is subjected to mockery. I just think that a pretty reasonable-looking car with what is no more than a rather poor advert has had some unfair judgements in some comments, and it all seems a bit like the Pistonheads "Hendon Way Motors" rants every time a car is flagged up for sale in the 944 area at the moment.
Personally, I'd just like to see the same comments from everyone, as they are all valid points, but made from a constructive point of view. Both in case the owner is reading this, and to help other people trying to sell. Let's face it, the seller is claiming to be a Club member and he could have called any of the team who would have advised how to word an advert, it's all part of the Register's role and it's pretty silly to advertise a car so poorly. All I'm saying is it's the second time recently we've had a sort of "pack" mentality in running down an advert rather than being constructive. Funnily enough I recently seemed to be in a minority in suggesting that professional writers should do proper research if writing a 944 buyers-guide, yet amateur sellers are castigated for not writing professional adverts!
As I say, it's your forum and you choose the tone of it between you. I'm just throwing in one view and you can take it or leave it. Perhaps we need a "seller's guide" in the faqs that people could use? Just a thought.

No MOT and no tax means no test drive. For me, that will always mean "no interest". It also means you need a trailer to take it away. All these things discourage potential buyers. This is the wrong way to go about selling a "good" car. Even giving the benefit of the doubt and assuming the advert is genuine and correct in all it states, it remains bad marketing.
Exactly.............agree 100%............there is something wrong with that car and if its not the body its the drivetrain or engine that wont show up at a standstill at tickover.
Its got a FSH we are told so its been serviced and one assumes money spent regularly? Yet £1000`s are lost off a car without an MOT!!
Why, when an MOT is only £40 ??????
