Another broken gear shift cablešŸ™ƒ

Hi all,
So last night the shifter cables went on my gen 2 Cayman. Hey ho, never mind.

Was just seeing if the upgraded Porsche cables have been installed by anyone and found to have lasted? I have seen about "upgraded" cables but not sure if these are really suitable for a daily driven, road focused car?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Happy Christmas

Hi,

Thatā€™s annoying! Unfortunately I canā€™t give any advice other than to say that the Numeric Racing alternative could be worth a punt since their cables donā€™t appear to be anymore expensive than the official Porsche ones. Numeric claim increased strength and durability compared with the stock item, the increased cable diameter being one of the potential benefits.

Let us know how you get on.

Jeff

Yeah, just trying to do some digging into the exact changes Porsche made to prevent this happening before I make a decision.

Morning,

For those who may need to know the Porsche OEM cable part is now:
98742404212.

To use this it requires a new coupler and support bracket, from the number looks like the coupler is actually from the 981.

98142402300- coupler
98742406501- support bracket.

Decided to go OEM as this is a daily driver and as such was concerned putting in a racing cable may result in excessive cabin noise.

Thanks for the update and good to hear that itā€™s fixed. Probably a safer call to go Porsche original if the carā€™s a daily drive.

Just out of interest, did you DIY or farm-out the job to a Porsche dealer or Independent?

Jeff

The good people at zuffenhaus are resolving it for me. Tbh I figured by the time I managed to squeeze myself under the box and then gone bought items like an alignment tool it was probably best to leave it it to the experts. For info, using PCB discount the parts from the dealer were Ā£653.
