Whilst replacing the Boxster's reversing light switch recently, I finally managed to track down the source of an annoying rattle that would usually kick in under acceleration. The culprit turned out to be the exhaust U-tube clamps (996-111-209-00) on the main box which had both rusted away to nothing...
After wondering why they weren't picked up at the major service 6 months ago at my PC and discovering the outrageous cost of Porsche rust-prone replacements, I sourced some stainless steel exhaust clamps (Mikalor Supra W4 : 47 mm - 51 mm) from an Austin-Healey parts specialist in Warwickshire for £2.10 each. Torqued up to 10 Nm they compress the pipe just enough to apply the right amount of clamping pressure. And they're half the weight too.
No rattles now... or rusting. [
