Early March I'll own my first Porsche and at the same time be living a childhood dream, just wondering if it's worth doing a file / scrap book of bills etc.................? Already purchased the domain name myboxster.co.uk to try to put into words / vision my experience. Although I'm not planning on selling the car anytime soon just wondering if stuff like this helps come re-sale?

Told the sales rep at my OPC today that my 700 quid Skoda - the mile muncher as I call it has a Porsche Centre tax disc holder in it (which they gave me after a number plate transfer) - She just laughed................ Quite a lot!

Wonder if I'll have to park out back when I turn up to sort the final bits out before collecting the car?

Mine was my first Porsche, 5 years ago come May and I've every bill for every penny I've spent on the car. But then I've always done it with my cars and it's interesting reading for the future.

No idea if it helps with resale - but what harm can it do to catalogue what you spend on the car over the course of your ownership.

I keep everything - receipts from tyres bought, Porsche clinic reports - kind of gives the car a sort of continuity for me.

Oh, and congratulations on the realisation of a dream!

I bought a Service Safe from the Club shop and keep everything filed in that: invoices, registration, photos, details of events etc. Well worth the money and part of the ownership experience!

I gave the buyer of my 944S 2 files of info, bills etc that I had compiled since I had bought the car (amazing how it mounts up - almost all I got was the MOT's and Tax Discs when I bought it). The chap was quite impressed but I think his wife thought I was very odd to have kept anything[]

I start an Excel spread sheet for every vehicle I buy, I have a simple template, and simply log all major service expenditure, as well as keeping the paper work. Very easy and quick to do, and very useful as a reminder of what work you've done and when. Also a very useful thing to produce to a would be buyer when the time comes to sell the car.

There are a number of good reasons for doing this:

1. It should help with re-sale. And, the older the car becomes, the more valuable the FULL history.

2. If you have a future out of warranty problem it can assist you in pursuing a sympathetic warranty claim

3. If your car becomes an insurance total loss it will help substantiate your value of the car

4. It demonstrates that you have been a conscientious and thorough owner.

5. Should you so wish, you can always work out the actual cost of ownership

6. If you own several cars you really do need to keep everything in safe and secure order, yet easy to access

Quite the contrary. An analysis of my costs of the three Porsches I have owned to date suggests that they have in fact been some of the cheapest motoring I have ever had. Granted they cost more to run and service, but buy and sell wisely and you can avoid that most swingeing of all motoring costs ... depreciation. [] Admittedly this applies to second hand cars, but it makes a pleasant change from watching money evaporating away from new cars! []
