AMERICAN PORSCHE SALES DOWN...early facelift!!!

Does this mean that the facelift is coming early???

Your thoughts please?

Here is Porsches official press release:

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, continued to perform
well in August 2006 in North America in a difficult market environment,
with 2,554 vehicles delivered. In August of the previous year, unit sales
were 2,894; a decline of 12 percent.
In the first eight months of 2006, the
manufacturer of sporty premium vehicles significantly boosted deliveries in
the US and Canada by eleven percent to 25,559 units. This is the highest
figure that the Company has generated in this period in its history.
The 911 once again met with a strong response among customers in North
America in August 2006, with 990 vehicles sold (previous year: 1,048). The
Boxster model series accelerated to 827 vehicles (previous year: 661),
including 548 units of the Cayman S. 735 units of the sporty all-terrain
Cayenne vehicles were delivered (previous year: 1,154). It should be noted
that the sales decline is due to lifecycles
and the fact that Porsche still
does not boost its sales with plant discounts.
 
American house sales also down so US economy seems to be slowing. I thhink the reference to product life cycle was probably more to do with the Cayenne where sales have really slowed rather than the 911. I dont think this means we will see an early facelift
 
I think this has more to do with falling sales of the Cayenne (and where the 4 x 4 market is not quite so popular in US) and where petrol is now $3/gallon!

Porsche's original answer to falling sales of the Cayenne was to cut back production instead of using incentives.

But it also looks like they build to a plan for the US, because the logistics of shipping vehicles across the pond and US creates its own set of problems, and the culture may be more of "I see, I buy", not "I see, I wait, I change my mind etc".

Porsche To Skip 2007 Model Year for Cayenne

Washington DC August 21, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that Porsche has decided to skip the 2007 model year of its Cayenne SUV.

Dealers must sell 2006 models of the Cayenne until the 2008 model debuts in early 2007 after a midcycle update, reports Automotive News.

"We have produced so many Cayennes that this will tide them over," says Porsche spokesman Bernd Harling. "We'll keep producing the 2006 until the end of the year."
 
Im in a bit of a dilema with this replacement question. I have been offered a very good price for my car against a new c4s but with all the facelift pictures knocking around I am starting to think about hanging on, my next car is going to have to stay for 3 years and I do not want to have 1 year of it being the current model (will order now to have delivery in March 07, my choice) and two years where it is not.

Last I heard, the date for the facelift introduction was Sept 2008 (from a couple of German sources).

Obviously until officially confirmed everything is just speculation [8|]

...2 years without being behind the wheel of a 997 Carrera (4) S, that's a LOT of pacing!! Going on vacation for just 2 weeks is hard enough in being away from mine! [:(]
