Alternator + regulator needed for test/diagnosis 944 turbo

LO all , I have someone I know to help me move on with my running on problem but if we disconnect the alternator
and find that is at fault I would like to have another to put straight on for confirmation.

Since I don't yet know for sure I would like a 2nd hand 944 alternator with regulator on I assume ? complete/working to either borrow for testing purposes or buy if its cheap then I could always pass it on and get my money back if its not needed. I think any oval dash cars alternator will do will it not ?

Does anyone have any alternators from broken cars etc.

Close to me in Herts/Essex/Beds/Cambs or Enfield way would be great as I could borrow it or buy it and pick it up but at the moment any offer would be considered.

I do have a starter motor which I 'think' is fine , it would need testing , if it helps anyone in a similar position or even a swap.

I really need to sort this as my MOT is running out and I want to get a years MOT on the car soon too.

Thanks

Mas

Alternator 90A 82-85.0 Ford Scorpio 2,0-OHC/Diesel/TurboD 90A Ford Sierra 1,3-2,0 OHC 90A

Taken from the alternative parts FAQ. Seeing that I have a series two 115a alternator on my series one car then I have always presumed that they are easily interchangeable.

Well I had a PM from a user on here offering to sell me a working alternator but each time this happens I P.M a reply asking for contact details and seem to struggle.

I prefer to buy from someone well known on the forum as opposed to E Bay ( same price) but each time I try, I seem to struggle on the forum. I'm not even sure if folk are getting my P.M's. Presumably its just me who has this trouble.

Nick can you contact me re the part offered , it has to be with me for early next week to be of use to me as I have a skilled friend booked mid next week to help me fit it and do a bit of diagnosing.

Thanks

I found the part numbers on my S2 alternator where the same as an early (1984) 944, so presume they are all the same, irrespective of what model of 944. I seem to recall using a Scorpio alernator at one point years ago when 944s were not so plentiful, but having to change the pulley. Unfortunately at the moment I don't have a spare good alternator...

Early are 90amp and series two are 115amp, from memory. The series two cars also have an extra run on the drive belt. PET shows what Porsche supply now, but it isnt a reliable way of telling you what the cars had originally. Bonnets are a good example, with the series two 944 bonnet being all that is available for everything from 1976-1991.

Swapping a 95w and a 115w is difficult - they line up differently and as Simon says they have different belt widths.

I wont be looking for any changes chaps !
just a nice cheap replacement alternator from an oval dash 944 will do it for me
I dont even know its actually faulty I just need one ready to try by Tuesday week [;)]
