Alarm LED Disconnection.

On my 993 I need to remove the small panel where the switches for the alarm LED, sunroof, rear wiper and spoiler switches are mounted.

The switches are easily removed but the LED does not pass through its mounting hole. Although it has very long leads on it - they were looped and taped together - I cannot trace the connection of the LED as it disappears within the console, so it would seem the easiest option is to cut the wires and re-join them when I reassemble the panel back in the car.

The question is: will cutting the wires cause problems with the alarm? Trigger it, perhaps, or make it inoperable on reassembly?

I know LEDs are much more reliable than normal bulbs and would normally have a much longer life expectancy but would also expect this to be a replaceable part - eventually.

Before I cut, can anyone shed some light - no pun - on any likely problems, please?

Thanks.

In your shoes I would cut the wires at a convenient point that facilitates rejoining them at a later point. I would expect the LED to be far and away the most reliable component of the alarm system.

if you do cut the wires mark each one before cutting as leds will not work if they are connected backwards and also tape ends of wires from alarm to prevent it shorting out on bodywork, should not prevent alarm working as it is only a indicator .heres some info on leds(I am a electronics/electrician by trade 26 years)

An update.
I cut the leads to the LED and removed the panel. The wires are colour-coded so it's simple when reconnecting them; I've used insulated miniature connectors in case I need to disconnect again in the future.
My fears about the alarm seem unfounded so far. My concern was that it might detect some tampering with the connections and adopt some failsafe, armed mode but I guess a system from that far back is not that sophisticated! The car locks and unlocks as before and the LED flashes. Haven't started the car as I've not finished with the panel but there is no suggestion that anything is amiss - yet.

Thanks for your replies.
