Alarm help please !!!!!!!

Hi All

I HATE my car alarm!
Got back from 2 week holiday today. 3 weeks ago a learned friend helped replace thermo fan switch (easy). He also looked at the alarm - said the adjustment stuff was behind the glovebox. (I wanted to lessen alarm noise and alarm sensitivity) Ended up muffling alarm speaker - big improvement - and didn't investigate sensor adjustment.
Today, pressed alarm button, car beeped 3 times, normal, just means it had been off at least once over hols. Key in ignition - lights on, a bit faint, turned key - nothing! Now there is a clicking noise near (under) the fuse box. I suspect the alarm.
Help, advice, thoughts GREATLY appreciated!!!

Sounds more like a flat battery than an alarm problem. (Although the alarm may have flattened the battery!) The ticking is the starter solenoid failing to pull in to spin the engine.

Suggestions:

1. Charge battery (or jump start the car)
2. Run it to make sure it runs as it should
3. Turn engine off, 'arm' alarm, and using a multimeter find out how much current it uses in an 'armed' state

Flat batteries cause alarms to behave oddly, and re-charging them usually restores normality. Testing the current use will tell you whether the alarm is flattening the battery or not.

I agree with Oli, sounds like a flat battery, perhaps your alarm was going off more than you think while you was on holiday, I'm sure your neighbours will let you know....:)

As you were in and about the glove box check the light goes out when glovebox is closed , a common issue ,will flatten battery in 3 days if it is staying on.

Many thanks gents!!

I got a charge from a neighbouring farmer's combine battery - 5 seconds of charging and we were good to go!!
Now for tomorrow morning - I expect instant success.

Thanks again
Donald
