Aircon oil volume 987.1

Hi,

Just had garage drain down the aircon before I replace the condensor and dessicator

The garage extracted 151ml of oil from the system along with .445kg of coolant.

The garage was surprised as was the local OPC with the volume of oil (expected about 20-30ml)

I haven't run the car since October last year, but any ideas on why so much was extracted.?

Was also wondering how much to return

850 gr of R134 refridgerant
195 ml of ND 8 according to this, which would tie in with your extracted volumes. You tend to lose more refridgerant than oil.

tallies with PCA, although they could be using the same source?

Thanks, for the link.

I was trying to work out if that much oil is typically extracted. The installer thought it was a lot as most of the oil would be in a reservoir by the compressor..

I’m sure there will be some residual oil in the pump itself as well and probably it’ll be worth taking it off to drain any oil. That way you’ll be starting from scratch, but don’t forget to prime the pump with some of the oil.😉
