Hi

2010 Cayman S- the airbag light is on, also the PCM is dead (the PCM died first)

Run a diagnostic - and I get error 80 CB Trigger unit faulty - which I assume is the airbag control unit - does anyone know where this is located - so I can inspect wiring - also if I get a replacement unit will it need coding to the car or is it a straight swap? I tried clearing the code but was not successful.

I am not worried about the PCM as I may replace it with a dynavi unit or leave it out to save weight - but are these faults related potentially ?

I removed the PCM, and tried clearing the code as well, which was unsuccessful.

I also have a loop cable on order for when the radio is not in, to see if that helps on trouble shooting.

The ecu is located under the pcm - mounted onto the floor of the ahead of the handbrake lever etc. You have to remove the center console components to get access to it.

yes the unit will need coding and locking to the vehicle it is put into.

 
Thanks irb- do you know the cheapest tool I can use for coding it back in ? I have looked at various ones and bought a cheap code reader - the battery was probably disconnected for a long time before I got this car - is it worth trying to reprogram the current airbag module first - just wondering if the battery has impacted things

It sounds as though you'll need a more sophisticated (and expensive!) diagnostic tool to resolve your problem - something like Durametric or Porsche's own PIWIS system. It may be that the disconnected battery hasn't helped, but a full diagnostic check is probably the best way to go as this should flag-up any issues.

It may just be cheaper to bite the bullet and leave the job to a Porsche Dealership or a reputable local Porsche Independent.

Realistically you can only code the modules with PIWIS (Porsche's diagnostic tool). There are some other set-ups that will give you some of the functionality to code the module, Durametric won't do this, neither will any of the snap on set-ups to my knowledge. Arbrites may, but it can be a bit fiddly to use.

However beofre spending the £4-500 on the module i would be inclined to make sure that's what the problem really is.

If you have PCM issues as well then it may be that there is some other problem lurking there.

I do have both PIWIS 1 and 2 but distance is usually an issue (i'm in CO4)

 
Re Airbag light.

i had this issue with airbag fault. Had a load of stuff replaced as was reading many faults on diagnostic.

airbag light still came on.

I asked the same question and was advised to pull seats fully forward and release the seat back then replace seat back ensuing it is locked back properly and not impeded by the bulkhead, them push the seat back into desired position.

It has sorted the problem for me thus far and is apparently because the seat may not have locked back properly due to the bulk head!

Hopefully ths might help.

Any issues message and I'll try and explain better.
