Air oil separator replacement 996 c4s

trying to get some ideas as to the cost of doing this. Any guidance welcome

Your biggest problem is access
Have you bought 101 Projects for you Porsche Carrera its a must - covers this .
you need a new hose clamp as well
If I remember the problem is getting at the clips at the bottom of the separator

Reasonably easy on the Boxster but not so easy on a 996

Just had it done on my 996. Porsche part £73 + VAT, probably cheaper non-branded. Labour is your potential issue the AOS being situated on top of the engine at the front nearside. My indy wished he'd lowered the engine and with 107K miles and 16 years of use the retaining bolts were fairly well er.... established.

It does appear it is better to lower the engine

Don't even think about doing it yourself at 3/4 hour labour

That's what PC Bolton did when replaced my AOS when I had my 996.

I changed mine last year whilst I had the engine out. You should get better access with the engine supported and lowered. I would advise checking the two flexi pipes as well.

It is a tricky job with the snap clip and bellows at the base of the AOS. I also had problems getting the upper connector free from the block - the o-seal seemed to have welded itself, as it should just pull off.

On the plus my engine feels great and idles smoothly.
