What do we think of this?

The word 'why' springs to mind!!

The work looks great and what a cracking engine, but if you like the flat six why not buy a 911?

My 2p anyway :)

Not every one likes a "fat beetle" Andy. At least someone found a way of using the good bit in a decent car.[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

Seriously though it's an impressive looking conversion.

Yep certainly can't fault the workmanship. I guess I'm biased as have always fancied a fat beetle! [:D] That said, I'd prefer the sound of the flat six coming out of my turbo than the stock sound, as good as it is :)

I never really got the air cooled thing, there are perfectly good reasons why 99.99% of cars use water to keep cool, they just seem to make a bit of a racket to me, the water cooled 911 engines still sound nice.

Fair play to whoever did this, quite a feat, now we need a 944 engine in the back of a 911.

Air cooled is a misnomer: theyre oil and air cooled and oil does most of the work. The water jacket also provides very EU-friendly sound deadening that Porsche couldn't get by without...

Absolutely there is no such thing as an air cooled engine. They are in fact oil-cooled. The oil is cooled in an oil cooler ( same as a radiator but for oil ) They just use a fan to blow cold air through the oil cooler and as a by product of that action over the barrels in a flat 4 or flat 6.
As Simon says most people get confused by the socking great fan on top of the engine.

I wonder what size a 996/997 engine is? would it fit between the chassis legs on a 944?If so a 997 gt3 or a twin turbo flat 6 would be interesting.
How much does a 996/997 engine weigh in relation to an in line 4 from a 944 ? Would it make the car nose heavy?

I've thought about that a few times and wondered what it would be like, I like it. Its been done properly by the looks of it too, I'd like to see back to back between it and a turbo or 2

Yes, having spent way more time than is sensible with Fiat 500 engines in bits I can understand that.
