Air con high pressure pipe - Unavailable?

I have a 987.2 2.9, 2012, the air con is inoperative due to corrosion on the high and low pressure pipes which originate somewhere in the engine bay. Replacement is a seriously expensive job!

I have been advised by the garage (Northway btw) that they have been told by Porsche that the high pressure pipe is no longer available, they've run out and no immediate plans to remanufacture.

I'm guessing that there are numerous people not only in the UK, but around the World with similar aged cars in a similar position to me.

I was wondering if there are any other Forum members in the same boat as me and whether they have found a solution.

Apparently, there are people who can repair these pipes, by cutting out the corroded section and welding a new piece in, but Northway suggested that it makes refitting difficult and it's better to replace the part.

I'm heading down to the South of France in a couple of weeks and my dream of going down in air-conditioned comfort have been dashedñ

Just spoke to them and they managed to find one from somewhere, so happy days!

They have another car with the same issue and they're waiting for another pipe to come in on back order.

Still, this does appear to be a genuine issue as they were originally told that they weren't available in the UK or from Germany.

A major problem with many unavailable parts at present anywhere in uk Germany in fact world wide

I've the same car but 2009, and had a touch of this situation on the front cross-over pipes (kit) these last weeks.
Does the same situation exist if you register with Porsche Classic which I think (could be wrong) now accepts the 987 model?

Parts availability seems to have been bit patchy of late Colin, as Cliff will testify when trying to source a set of front springs for a Macan. This week another member initially couldn’t source a coolant pipe kit for his 987.2 Boxster, but thankfully the situation appeared to change rapidly and the job’s now in hand. It sounds like a similar situation for you.

You’d have thought [hoped?] that after the parts shortages following-on from Covid the situation would have improved significantly by now … maybe not?🤔

It's weird because they were initially told that the part was unavailable and then it suddenly appeared.

As I understand it, there are limited supplies so Porsche only releases the parts when there is specific demand.

Northway have another aircon pipe on order for another customer.

There are going to be a lot of these failing over the next few years. Wez at Northway is now an expert on this job and it's a real pig to do, apparently.

I’m sure Graham above will testify to a similar situation with his coolant pipe kit when - unexpectedly - the parts became available to his Porsche Independent.

As these cars age I’m sure that demand from the Independents is outstripping that from the Porsche dealers, and you have to hope that parts will continue to be available. Fortunately Porsche have a good reputation in this respect, and OEMs are stepping-in as well.

I can't remember ever having parts supply issues for my 964. A much older car sold in significantly smaller volumes than the Cayman.
