Hi All,
Looking for some advice please.
Purchased a 996 c2 on 22nd April for top market money. Car had done 97k miles and had a full Hartech engine rebuild less than 2k miles before (in Sep21). Engine run in oil changes were all carried out.
It also had a 36 month RAC warranty.
I'd carried out an extended test drive the week before purchase and fell in love with the car. I did not get a PPI before purchase but on the grounds of how the car drove, the lack of any warning lights, quick scan of paperwork, and the fact that switchgear all seemed to be functioning I proceeded.
On the weekend of 22nd April I drove the car back from Bury to Lisburn - taking in over 415 miles - and no issues whatsoever with the car.
Car remained in a locked garage for the next week and was only taken out for a 15 mile or so drive on the bank Holiday Monday - again without issue.
Today the car was taken out for a spirited 40 mile drive and upon returning to car after parking up at one location found a coolant light warning on and a sizeable puddle underneath.
Coolant was topped up with water, RAC were called and car was driven to a friends house where the RAC would meet us. Coolant continued to slowly leak and it appeared that the added water was boiling over in the coolant.
Upon the engineer attending he checked the oil cap and found the dreaded 'mayo' around the top of the cap and the car started to smoke when the enginer was turned on. I was advised that the coolant looked like it was mixing with the oil and had been for some time.
He also advised it looked like the dipstick was fairly dry... even though the electronic oil check advised levels were fine, and the engine temp was steady at standard running temp.
I spoke to the seller who has advised he will speak to Hartech after the bank Holiday as the engine work should be under warranty.
I just don't know what to do next - do I speak to RAC warranty to get advice? or do I await the seller speaking to Hartech and coming back to me? Or is there another option?
I know if the car does end up having to go back to Hartech their Ts & Cs seem to say that they will not cover the cost of transporting the car to them... even if they do accept the fault to lie with some work they have carried out.
Is there any chance that I may be able to cover off transport costs without me being out of pocket?
Regards,
Steven
