Adriatic Blue Lighweight C4!

Well I thought there was already a thread on here about my car but cant find it so thought I'd start one.
The story is long and more detail can be seen in the videos on you tube but to cut is short two weeks after a bare metal respray I crashed the car at SPA, cam eoff at about 130mph at the end of Kemmel and was very lucky not to have hurt myself or damaged the car more than it was already.

Mods done are too many to list but include: Sunroof delete, lithium battery, Cup cams, intrax suspension with solid mounts, RS engine mounts, lighweight interior, carbon bonnet.. and the list goes on.

I will be converting the car to a C2 using the existing C4 gearbox in the next few months. More detail here:

I'm always interested to hear what others are doing with their 964's.
Good video.
Bad luck with the Spa mishap. After your experience I would think about disconnecting the ABS altogether.
The piston corrosion which the guy said is common on 964's is the 1st I've heard of this issue. It must be to do with water in the brake fluid, what do you think? If so it's a must to change the fluid every 2 years.

The piston corrosion issue in the abs pump is extremely common. Almost very 964 has it to some degree. You need to check your ABS if not already done. It is likely to be moisture I'm The fluid so frequent changes are good but also important to exercise the ABS- any time you're on grass or a loose surface is a good opportunity. This will get those Pistons moving.
The conversion from c4 to c2 does not necessitate any electrical work or changes to the ABS, the PDAS system will still work and think the 4wd is connected and will operate the ABS as per before.

As far as I know the ABS pump is the same on all 964 models... but maybe I have that wrong.
Maybe you meant that the C2 does not have hydraulic assistance.. unlike the C4. But the ABS pump is another thing.
 
The parts diagram shows a hydraulic pump but the C2 has vacuum assisted braking and the C4 and RS have hydraulic assisted braking.
I remember on my C4 the pump taking ages to reach pressure and switch off before starting the engine from cold, the C2 doesn't do that. As for the ABS does it need a pump or can it work with solenoids and valves. I haven't got my reference books handy.

I've driven the SPA circuit a couple of times and would hate to go through your experience as we all would, so that's another job for the Winter lay up, check the ABS unit.
 
As I mentioned hydraulic assistance is something different to the ABS pump. The c2 does indeed have vacuum assisted braking but the ABS pump is something different and it looks to me as if both models have it, I can see it in the frunk of my friend's C2.
 
Yes when I read through all 3 pages of the excellent Rennlist forum it was all explained.

I don't think the ABS has worked on either of my 964's but then I'm used to pumping the brakes if I feel the wheels have locked.
However to have it malfunction in a way that locks one side and ABS works on the other is the worst outcome.
I have done a lot of work on my brakes overhauling the calipers which are upgraded from the standard ones as I always start with the brakes when wanting to improve a cars abilities before doing the suspension and then on to engine performance.
So thanks for posting and waking me up to the fact of the ABS problems and outcomes.
