Admiral insurance

Sheilas Wheels is part of the Esure Group and Esure Group was acquired by Ageas in September 2025 which may partially explain their current pricing. My ClassicLine policy is with Ageas and current renewal is same as last year but with reductions on track cover which is probably a separate underwriting risk element.

My policy for my 992.1 turbo actually went down last year. For the year to May 2024 I paid £1,574 and the last renewal in May 2025 was £1,257 - a fall of 21%. I don’t think that moving from 9 years NCD to 10 years would have accounted for that.

I did shop around last May, and Admiral were around the cheapest price for well known insurers with a decent Defaqto rating.

Thanks Peter_Bull for the tip on PPF - the front of mine has it as a factory fitted option, but I didn’t declare this as it was manufacturer approved and fitted - I will now though!

Admiral's terms include not covering "organised motoring events". See Admiral's "Your Car Insurance Guide", "General Exceptions" item h. On other forums they have indicated to customers who have asked that this exception includes just about everything I do with PCGB and another car club, including organised drives out etc. Before getting a quote from them I emailed them to check and they told me they wouldn't answer by email, ring them up. I decided not to bother.

CL are offering me a renewal quote broadly in with 2025, but with the following reductions in track cover - (a) no Europe days (b) non-PCGB days carry a £100 ish premium per day. Consistent with yours?

I asked them by email as I wanted their answer in writing. They emailed me to tell me they wouldn’t answer by email. I know one person who had insurance with them who gave them a series of examples of his car club events (drives out, meetings etc) and they confirmed that none were covered except a drive out with his mate. I gave up.

I just renewed with Admiral. Initially, their renewal quote was about 15% higher than last year.
I looked on a couple of comparison websites, and the only lower price was with Hastings Direct, with a black box fitted!
I rang Admiral anyway, to reduce estimated mileage from 18k miles to 15k, expecting only a negligible decrease in premium.
Speaking to a very helpful Welsh lady, she got my quote down to £857 (2025 Carrera T, 15k miles per year, plus insurance for my home & contents).
Aviva came in at over £1,500 and Esure over £1,800, just for car insurance (not including home & contents).
I’ve been with Admiral for years and was perfectly happy with how they dealt with a windscreen claim last year.

I'm insured with Admiral and only recently read the "organised motoring events" smallprint. I've been doing PCGB events for a few years now as well. I have tried many times to get clarity on what that statement actually means but have had zero replies even after being promised a callback. My 992 is on our family group policy which just makes life admin sense to me. I've never had to claim hoping I never do.

but this now puts me (and others I'm sure) in an odd position. I can't do any of the drives out or even think about going to a car event as this could be seen as breaking their policy. Stupid really but that's how they wriggle out of claims I guess.

What other alternatives are there that DO cover events like this? When I got my car a few years ago I tried Locktons. Found them to be very rude and snooty and generally not really interested in my business. Porsche's own insurance sounded good but the cost was £££££££££!

Try the NFU for a multi car quote, they have a good reputation if there is a claim, and can be competitive (but not always). I’ve been with them for a few years and mid year changes are free. Their exclusions are for ‘rallies’ but have never checked what that really means. Our Club group drives are not rallies as such.

I’m sure that someone has asked the question about ‘organised events’ to Admiral before and the answer they got was it’s for the likes of track days etc, not for car meets however, it’s always best to check.

Dan.

I've never considered myself uninsured whilst driving quite legally on a public highway - even when in a convoy with others.

I suspect this might become a problem however, if it is an organised, and publicised event that is maybe run under a Motorsport UK permit and where you are required to sign-on to take part. This might well be misconstrued by insurers and potentially excluded under your policy. A valid defence would be that you've taken all reasonable steps to clarify the position, but your insurers have proved repeatedly unresponsive.
Most insurers are predominantly concerned about competitions where speed decides the result.

If organisers aren't offering insurance for the event themselves and you're still worried, you'll need to take a view whether or not to participate. Also, you could try obtaining legal advise on the position in relation to your current policy.

Regards,

Clive
