ABS on Trackday 944S2?

What to do........ABS unit looks like it may have had a leak, corrosion evident, do I remove it for trackday 944S2 , is it possible to remove sensibly, or do i get it checked out and stick with it?

Difficult one to answer as it's your choice.

Presumably it doesn't work at the moment, so if you are used to it then leave it like that or remove it to save a tiny bit of weight.

If you want to have ABS you need a new unit. I'm presuming you are talking about the pump

Having spent time last year in a light track day 944 with a faulty ABS I would get it repaired. The brakes and this one had M030 liked locking up and it made the car difficult to drive, entertaining, but difficult. It may just have been because the ABS was defective but I would rather have ABS than not.

The system really isn't designed to work without the ABS, if I was taking it out I think I would revert to pre 86 944 turbo parts where possible. If you get to drive one you will know what I mean about how different the brakes feel. In the early non ABS turbo the brakes require a fair old shove to really work. In a late car with non-functioning ABS its not much more than the weight of your foot and the brakes lock up, this makes it very very difficult to modulate.

Is it a road-legal car? I thought you had to have it operational for an MOT, or is it similar to the cat rules that it's only after a certain year? [8|]

All, thanks for your advice.......I am wanting to stay road legal if possible , so if needed for MOT then i will need to know if it has to work if spec'd on the car from OE, can anyone confirm this part for me?

Being a newbie to the marque, i will heed advice and not knowing if the ABS pump unit works or not, will have to wait until i have the car assembled to test out i guess.......and then by the sound of it be prepared to spend.........if i find it doesn't.

I think ABS needs to function, there was a car I was following that didn't have it working and he was locking up all the time (944 S2),I know I use mine quite a bit.
