A little advice please

I am looking to place an order for my boxster within the next few days. As I am leasing the car optional extras need to be carefully chosen. I am fairly tall (6'2" ish) and am wondering whether or not to go for the 'lowered seats' option. Does anyone here have that option on their car ? and if so, was it worth it ?

The other option I am undecided on is that of the sports suspension. Would you all say it was a must, or is the stock setup fine as it is.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can't comment on the seats, as i'm the opposite (need a booster cushion), but here's my 10 peneth on the suspension.

What will you be using the car for?

If, as I did, you're buying the car for everyday use and rarely taking the car on the track, if at all, then in my opinion there is little to be gained from having the sports suspension. Let's face it, a good proportion of our roads are verging on poor and this does not really lend itself to anything much more than air suspension. A Hovercraft might be good!

If on the other hand you need the S.S. maybe because of track use then why not.

I didn't have it and I will happily say that I have no regrets. The standard is quite acceptable.
 
I've heard that if you are tall, the "delete centre console" option can make a significant difference to the comfort level.

As for SS - I've heard it's too harsh on 18" wheels, but 17" and SS is a good compromise and reckoned to be the all-round best configuration.
 
We've had three Boxsters, one with Sports Suspension, one without and an 'S'.

For normal road use, the standard suspension set up is very good - firm but compliant enough to be comfortable. I found the sport suspension to be too jiggly and fidgety on UK roads, for not much handling advantage.

Heated seats are wonderful and will quadruple the number of days you can enjoy the car with the roof off.

Lowered seats are worth having if you are 6'+.
 
030 Sports Suspension

If you are going to "drive" your car then this is the option to go for. It is noticeably firmer than stock but with 17's it's far from being uncomfortable on normal roads. I'm normal height 5' 8" and fit in the standard leather seat just fine.

I didn't realise that lowered seats was an option.
 
Thanks for the info. I have added heated seats and the wind deflector now. Will also have the lowered seats .... still unsure about sports suspension as I wont be doing any track days in the car, however I do drive through Milton Keynes a lot which has nice flat tarmac and lots of roundabouts to take on [;)]
 
If your going to be spending a lot of time giving the MK roundabouts a seeing to, then get your fortnightly geometry and realingment sessions booked aswell[;)]
 
Yeah, it does take the you know what to pay 350 for a less comfortable seat !! but I drove an S last year and found it a little cramped and had the feeling my head was poking out the top a tad. [:-]

If the only think they change on the seat is the base cushion then surely the stock cushion would compress under my err 'mass' anyway.

I have spoken to a friend who is a service advisor for Porsche Hatfield and he says they can do something similar after I have taken delivery of the car but he still reccomended the factory option.

I think I will have to go have another sit in one to see what I think.
 
You have a point with the centre console. As I've said, i'm not exactly tall but even my left knee can get squashed when lifting off the clutch. But then where would I store my CD's?
 
Just had another sit in one and I am struggling for legroom :(

We got any lanky people driving boxsters here ????
 
You might want to do a search on www.ppbb.com - the US boxster board. There is at least one guy over there at 6ft8in and swears that removing the centre console is the fix.
 
I'm not sure the option to delete is available on all models - The console does not come with the 550, but the option is to add it!

It is an easy thing to do after buying the car though - and you can put the console back when you sell it.
 
I think its called the GT3 console delete option, and doubt its available as an option.

A few people have talked about getting it done (myseld included as I am 6'3"), but as yet not seen one in the flesh.

I'm 6'' 1' and would have liked to have a lower seat option. If I were to drive, back straight I would have a great view of the sun visor and not much else, so I drive leaning slightly forward, which is a bit annoying. Having said that, I am used to it, so dont worry too much, but if you can, you should get the lowered seat option.
