A Day At The Races to celebrate MarkK's Success!

ORIGINAL: A9XXC

Would suggest meet at Redgate lodge cafe 12.00? Farily sure will be able to walk into paddock, but lodge is open to all.

Wherever that is it sounds like a plan. Would suggest no later than 12 though - race is a 12.35 and don't know where good spot to watch from is.

btw all - I'll have the speed limiting device with me (wife) so no talk about how expensive ball bearing turbos are! [&:]

See you there - I'm bringing my 10 year old son along who is getting the bug... he spent a few hours at Cadwell on Thursday watching me pottering round...

You realise that we forgot to arrange to all wear white carnations and carry copies of the times.....[:D]

Just back from hols so couldn't make it but hope you had some good racing (the night race is probably still going as I type)

Well done on winning the entire series Mark - not bad for your first years racing [:)]

Thanks!!!
Today was a great way to end the season! Thanks for all the support that turned up!Special thanks to Birthday boy Paz who has helped beyond belief this season, thanks dude!!!!
Resultswise...2nd in the day race and 3rd in the night race(what a bizarre experience almost dreamlike)the lights we put on the car did a great job but all those gradient changes in the dark felt weird!!!
A great day all round ,I may be late into work tomorrow!!!

Mark, can I add my congrats - does not get better in a rookie season, well done

I enjoyed my quick trip up to see the night race, somehow the cars seem to be travelling faster and the drivers all doubly courageous - good to watch.

Nice to meet you today Mark and well done on a great drive in the day race [:)]. From what I saw the Lotus mugged you on the pit stop by having less traffic problems on his out lap (he pitted two laps earlier than Mark). With a bit more fortune the win would have been surely yours.

An amazing rookie season Mark, well done - it's been a pleasure being a part to it all.
Night racing is fantastic!!

Was nice to meet up with the forum guys too, Paul, Steve and Mike amongst others.

Mark, I do believe it's my round [:D]

I'll be there aswell guys as I'm supposed to be giving Marcus a hand with his 964. [:)]

What happened to Marcus? He seemed to be going very well in the lead until about 2/3 distance & then sounded very rough before retiring. Hope its nothing too bad.

All went well up until the scheduled stop. Although, he dropped to 3rd behind the Lotus and Mark as he came out of the pit lane. Two laps later the engine went sick and he pulled into the pits again in a cloud of smoke. While we could see that the engine was spitting oil back up the filler neck, we couldn't spot what was wrong in the time available. So he retired it and is now awaiting a diagnosis this week.

Well done Mark - shame you couldn't finish off with a win (although we hadn't spotted the Esprit had got ahead and actually thought you had won [:)]

We had a great afternoon - I think my favourite was probably the very rapid Aston in the FC race - great sounding car.. Did they have 2 drivers? It certainly seemed to pick up the pace later on & I see it won the night race. The whole day certainly got me thinking about how much it would cost to fettle the Honda for competition & how much extra that would be compared with my track day costs...

Just imagine how fast that blue turbo could be with 350-400hp... [;)] I guess it might get boring winning every race by a mile though [:D]

Well done Mark, again! [:D]

A thoroughly enjoyable day and some very entertaining racing, although it got a bit chilly in the stands for the night race - I wonder if that's the worlds first Frogeye 944??

Sad to see some cars developing problems - it must be a real sickener when that happens.

Nice to meet you Ed - hopefully we'll bump into each other at a trackday, well, not literally! [8|]

Thanks Guys like i said i really appreciated the support, was quite a tiring day a little bit physically but more mentally,i just feel tired today, will be going to bed tonight nice and early, the day race was great i managed to stay ahead but i lost time to the Lotus in the pitstop and then my outlap sucked a bit, when you come up on slower cars in the wrong place it really slows everything down, and that lap cost the race,i think i might have reeled him back in if it would have been a smaller gap.........
heyho bearing in mind the age, milage, road legal stuff on my car i think it demonstrates what great and underated cars these old turbos are even when up against full monty race cars that are super developed cost bucketloads and weigh as much as a bag of crisps[:D]
Night race was epic,a little bit scary in places but the car was settup well spotlightwise to do the business but my lack of experience in the dark was pretty evident with some sucky lines that added up to slower laps,i tried to switch my spot lights off so as not to light the way for chasing competitors but it wasn't enough!!Craner curves in the dark are something else and i really leaned on my standard 250 turbo brakes in places when i misjudged speed here and there.
Once again thanks to anyone that helped this year Mr S,Mr F,Paz, Team Parker and anyone that turned up,thanks to Mike for taking pics aswell[:)]
Thats it for this Season, and relax![:D]

Give me a shout if you want to discuss. In my view it would not cost much more, & might even be cheaper if you shared with a second driver who can contribute to the bills (& pay a small seat hire fee). The buzz from racing is so much more than from a track day. The two don't compare.

The Honda would probably be ideal for the CSCC Tin Tops.

Nothing stops drivers from entering races more than a car who always wins by a mile. The CSCC gives any car that wins outright, a 30 seconds penalty for the rest of the season. This gives everybody else a chance of winning. Funnily enough the only people that don't like this arangement are the cars that win! Everybody else thinks its a great idea.

True, but then 30 seconds only equates to about 1 second per lap......

Well done Mark, racing against Marcus gave you yet another good marker I bet and somewhat dispels the myth that Future Classics is slow or less competitive than other series/championships. I had a look over those times, the lap times from Alex and Pete in that S2 were epic. I know the track is a bit faster than a couple of years back but they were less than a second slower than Marcus in a pure class 2 PCGB car, and faster than Ben D's best times a couple of years back in the 968. Underlines the fact I feel that either of those guys would have walked the PCGB Championship this year if they ran that car over "here" or is it "there" [:D], rather than Future Classics.

You deserve the rest but may have some more front engined turbo power competition next year to keep you honest mate.

Enjoy the end of season bash as well Mark.

....oh and to the guy who said about how gutting it is to DnF with a mechanical failure tell me about it [:(]. If anyone has had a worse start to their racing career than me answers on a post card please [:D].

Neil hi

I may be wrong but I think Alex/Pete were using the M3 yesterday - despite what it says on TSL. The S2 is I think up for sale (pistonheads) and IMO not a wise thing to ever go racing with a car up for sale - that would really be tempting fate!

Must look into the interesting points you made on lap times - wonder what Marcus was driving as he has more than one racecar. Certainly the engine was on its last legs and expired!

They were in a White S2 I thought
- oh and I think Marcus's 964 had a "for sale" sticker on the front screen as well - I think that might turn out to be a very expensive race for him.

Mark was in the very low 1.20's which makes him as quick as the DC5 Integras in the tin tops. I would imagine the new chicane cuts lap times slightly, but even so it's quick. Mark looks a very smooth driver (even if he protests that all he does is try to drive as fast as he can) which works very well in a 944.

Andy - While the prospect of racing the civic is tempting, and even apart from the money, another slight issue I have is that I spend all summer playing cricket, so not exactly compatible with racing, and doing the two together would probably = divorce [:D]
