997TT Tip Or Manual

Hi all my build date is fast approaching

question is whats your opinion , anybody here got a tip 997TT ? i am really thinking the Tip is the way to go have a manual TT after 12 Mths of a Tip 996TT and the Tip on the new car is supposed to be so much better esp in sport mode , driven the manula 997TT it goes through the gears like stink but can be a bit of a pain if driven quickly , do 6 trackdays a year as well and was just .4 sec slower with the tip over the manual on the 2 tracks i have compared ! Pain is if they ever manage to sort a DSG which i am told is at least 2 years away on the 997TT then that would really give the best of both worlds :(

I have just specified my car and went for manaul after driving Manual and Tip back to back at Millbrook. The Tip is impressive but very uninvolving in my view. OK if you are going to use the car daily and in lots of traffic.

On the mile straight at Millbrook in the Tip you just put your foot on the break build the revs until the turbo comes in release the break and away you go. I felt like I was just sitting there uninvolved albeit at rapid pace. In the manual I was hitting the rev limiter in 5th (165 MPH) way before the 3/4 mile post which I found amazing. Even though I was probably slower in the manual I felt it was much more fun and left me in control even if my control was not as good.
The Turbo is much quieter than my 997C2S with PSE so if you have the Tip as well I think it is less fun. However both manual and Tip car very well planted. My instructor touched 180MPH on the bowl and the cars felt very secure. It just seems to sit down on the road beter than my C2S. Levels of grip outstanding.

It comes down to personal choice really with either box still a brilliant car. We would all like to try the PDK box but who knows when that will be available. Porsche wont announce it until its ready as it would hit sales as every one wait if they had a definite date

180mph on the Millbrook bowl?! I felt nauseous going at 130mph when I did it on that bank angle [:'(]

If I had been driving I would have felt nauseous but this guy really knew how to handle the car and ispired great confidence. I do confess to grapping the door handle very tightly. I did take the car to 150 on the bowl when I was driving but I was politely reminded that I was meant to be limited to 130

I wasn't told anything about being limited to130!!

On my C4S day I got to 148mph before bottling out (but that was in a Cab which was a bit more jittery). The instructor did £160 in the Coupe, but then it started to rain !!

I thought it was 130mph max WITHOUT CRASH HELMETS. Min of 100mph in the top lane I seem to recall. The quality of the tarmac on the top lane wasn't great which is what worried me more than anything. Plus I was in MY OWN car so didn't want to take any chances.

...sorry, we seem to have wandered off-topic a little [8D]

You are quite right Alex but that rule does seem to get loose interpretation from time to time. So to get back on theme its a manual then?

Just spec'd my car. I went for the manual for similar reasons as above... to be more involved in the drive.
I also think it will help with resale as I think Tiptronic will be hard to shift when the PDK finally comes through.
