997 C2S or C4S

i know this might start an endless debate but I am wrestling with several options for a newer 911. I am selling my 996 C4S, if I could keep it I would.

what are peoples views of C2S against C4S. I tend to do 5k plus miles per hear in the winter as well so a C4S seems a must or is a 2 ehough grip?

I prefer the wider body as well. Much diff apart from those details?

If anyone knows of a good gen 2 let me know? Budget around £40-£45k.

Personally I prefer the looks of the 4s but my old 2s was superb.

That said, if I were buying like for like today I'd have a 996 c4s ?? I love them.

As a driver of a C2S for the past 12 months I have been amazed by the levels of grip even in the wet.....with the right setup I can't see why anyone would need a 4S.....I would also guess on track the 2 wheel drive would continue to be the better bet......

C2S - no question IMHO.
Lighter, sharper, faster and with superior handling.

I haven’t driven the two on track but in normal (spirited) driving I think it’s very hard to spot the difference. I’ve driven both quite a bit.

The 4s has a bigger back end which wins me over, until you have to replace the 305 section tyres! (295 for 2s)

C4S for the wider hips, any day. I had one last year and loved it. I'm afraid you're not going to get a definitive answer here!

No. I meant, 996 C4S. It's a far more special car to my eye. Love them.

My 2s on michelins was superb in the wet. I wouldn't drive a 911 on pirellis in the wet no matter what the drive train was and I am not very impressed by the Bridgestones either.

Tyres EE will make more difference than the drive train. Oh and the driver of course ;-)

Not had any problems with my 997 C4S on Pirellis in the wet (and it rains a lot in Scotland).
I used to campaign a rally car & I just love how rude you can be with the throttle on the C4s, the 4wd really inspires confidence on poor surfaces (lots of roads on Scotland qualify for that category)
I would also agree that on well paved dry roads you would be hard pressed to make a choice between either model, but I do love the aesthetics of the wider hipped C4S

Seconded - my C2s has been rock steady even in really, really horrible conditions in the (nearly) 7 years I've owned her. I would say at the risk of getting lynched that Michelin rubber on 997s is a must. Mine came with P-Zeros and the difference when I moved to PS2s was like night and day. Yes, there's a bit of a noise increase on Motorways, but the jump in confidence, handling and overall stability more than makes up for it, specially as I only do around 6k miles a year, as you intend to. (Oh, and I run 305 section on the rear with no issues)
I'd also point out that running a reduced mileage means each drive tends to be 'special' so another tick against the C2s, IMO

I was in a similar position but went for a 2S and haven't been disappointed. I came from an Audi TTS (no jokes please) and had thought I'd need a 4S having been used to 4wd but have been surprised by how much grip you get from a 2S. A tricky one and no right or wrong answer as I like others like the widebody of the 4S. Drive both and go with your gut feel on the one you prefer.

I have had a C2S and just had delivered a brand new C4S. I have driven a C4S several times prior to my new one being delivered for 1st March and I can honestly say that they both perform perfectly. There will be the inevitable pro's and cons from the die hard RWD fans but honestly I love them both. Ive an old X Type Jag which I love to bits and this is AWD 2.5 litre and its been an absolute stalwart over the past 13 years. You can use power delivery on the 4S to use the four wheel drive system effectively as the power transfer is electro mechanically controlled and for most of the time is RWD. My choice of AWD simply down to levels of grip and roadholding as well as getting the power down more effectively.
