996 turbo prices

Seeing the prices of early 996 turbo's at the moment certainly has me salivating. A decent yr2000 model is getting perilously close to being within reach (i.e. what I can get the wife to agree to spending on a car). What i'm wondering is are these cars prices temporarily depressed and once this whole economic downturn comes to an end (if it ever will) do people expect the prices of these things to increase again or are they now low for good?

I'm in the situation where I would need to get some financing which I don't mind if I thought I was getting an ultimately £40k - £50k car for £25k+ financing interest - would still seem a bargain to me, but I wouldn't want to get into negative equity with the car. I wouldn't see this as a speculating move. I genuinly would keep this car for far longer than the financing period, but I am generally only prepared to get small short term loans for cars so this would be a deviation from my normal rule.

You should look and ask on Pistonheads Porsche Forum loads of threads asking the same question ... they certainly looking good value but factor in RMS ....

From what I have seen from studying the 996 TT market for a while they are unlikely to go up again, I should think they will fall and then stop at about the 20k level.
Problem is there are far to many of them around to hold there value and I get the feeling a lot of them are on finance so come crunch time the first monthly payment you dont need is the flash car that is loosing money badly and people will be desperate to sell.
If you can go to 35k a nice mk1 GT3 would be a safer bet and shouldnt drop to much.
Or how about a nice 993 [;)]

Not a problem Des it is a different base engine

I can't see how these cars can go much lower! its bullet proof, very fast and looks far better than a std 996. What a bargain, look for a low manage well cared for example with FPSH and new tyres.

Actually i'm not that bothered about milage. I tend to think milage is pretty irrelevant in modern cars as long as it has been cared for. My 944 is 22yrs and 125kmiles old and according to cylinder pressure tests and Porsche pressure test criteria it is only just run in. I'd probably target a y2k model to avoid the new tax rules - however before I can even contemplate it I'd need to get the business case past the wife. Unfortunately I don't fancy my chances, especially with a 2nd baby on the way. Unfortunately the timing might be all wrong for me to take advantage of the bargain basement prices.

Irrespective of much it cost to buy a 996 tt, it is an expensive car to maintain especially if an OPC warranty is added to the cost. They are quite cheap to buy now but I am certain that in a year or two there will be quite a few on the market without a proper maintenance record and the good ones with good maintenance record will appreciate in value.

My car is about to have a major service plus whatever else it needs at Main Dealer. They have matched the labour rates of local independant so whilst still a load of wonga it helps with service history still to have main dealer stamp
