996 service!!

Hi Jammie. Couldn't agree with Ben more. You'll find that OPC's are generally very poor when it comes to servicing (they suggested changing my engine oil - but not the oil filter unless I was prepared to pay more!?). If you do get any "work" done by them you'll find that you end up sat with a be-suited service manager (who generally can just about manage to put petrol in a car) who will ask you for you PIN number and send you on your way. Alternatively your average indi will take you over the car following the service and tell you everything that they've done in detail.
My Indi kept me talking for over an hour after I collected my car following a major service (circa £ 440) last year. If I was looking for a second hand 911 I would try to get one that had been serviced by an Indi and not OPC - particularly now as things are so tight and they're all worried about their jobs!
I would be very wary about this estimate - it seems very high to me. You've got to (at the very least) get a second opinion from an indi. I think that you might find that the OPC is looking to try and find extra "funds" - from your bank account

Hold on with the Indy, my 996 has just had it's 12,000 mile service and it should have been £356, but is cost me £180 and was with Reading OPC
To start with provide all your own parts and oil, especially Mobil 1. I get mine from Costco, the oil filter I got on Ebay and the Pollen Filter I got from Eurocarparts. As long as you buy OEM quality parts, I have never had a problem providing my own parts and yes I do have the Porsche Extened Warrenty.
Next you do get 10% off being a PCGB member, which is cool. But check with your local region as they may have arranged an even better discount. Thames Valley have organised £65 +vat an hour in Reading!
I have no problem using an Indy but Porsche do seem to trying to reduce the cost difference.
So, a full Porsche service for half price!

My car is due for its major service with all the extras you mention (service, brake fluid, spark plugs, fuel filter and drive belt). But as its 7 years old my OPC (newcastle) offers 50% off labour and 15% off parts for club members
Its booked in during October with a price tag of £514.53p
Maybe worth negotiating if you want to keep the full OPC service history?

That really is scary .. they are just taking the proverbial!!!!!
I use my local mechanic who really knows his stuff and does an excellant job. I don't get an OPC stamp but I do get a really good service at nothing like that price!

That's what he said, yes rears will need doing in next 6000 miles. The front had massive chunks missing on the inside of the disc, very dangerous.
It took them 2 hours to remove one of them it had completely rusted on , I watched them do it, 5 blokes, plus they had to re thread the caliper holes too. They finished it at 7.30 last night, they all worked extra 2 hours to get it ready for me and charged no extra, top people. Had the car all days and worked on from 9 a.m to 7.30 at night.
Going back Saturday as they want to wash it for me and do a free air bag check too which takes 30 mins.
