996 pre purchase inspection near Bracknell

Hi, I am new to Porsche cars and looking at a private purchase of a 996 C2 I’ve seen near Bracknell, can anyone recommend a qualified pre-purchase inspection company who covers that area? Thanks in advance and sorry if this is in the wrong place

Well it's ten years since I bought a 996 from a person living (then) in your bit of google maps and I think I did the research which lead to Peter Tognola http://www.tognolaengineering.co.uk/ doing a PPI for me.

I discussed the project with Peter by phone, he was clear that he'd share his inspection with the seller as well as with me the potential buyer. He did a good job, carried out some periodic renewal jobs - brake discs and pads - and I remember the "this is my first Porsche" discussion which lead to a bemused look and the question "what'll happen if you don't like it?": smiled and drove home to Suffolk and that car is still my pride and joy.

That's a great story and thanks, he hasn't come up in any of my searches so far. Datchet isn't far from where I live, or where the car is located. I'll give him a shout in the morning

Good luck!

We've got 2003 996 and it's been largely trouble free, did the first headlight polish this weekend which wasn't difficult.
Haven't had any of the usual problems you hear about and it's done over 100k miles.

Goes like a little go kart!

That's good to hear. Thanks

We used Peter Morgan Consulting (through PCGB), our car came from Northway Porsche, not far from Bracknell. That was nine years ago so don't know if he is still operating.

My bet would be that Northway would do you a PPI, but, may suggest you take it to them, in Berks, for a more through inspection.

Worth giving them a call

Thanks all, spoke with Northway as that's where the car has been serviced since 2008; Ray was super helpful but said they're so busy they've stopped doing on site inspections as they're so busy in the workshop anyway. Interestingly he said that on the very early 996s the one big thing he'd want to check for is bore score, which if you go down the route of going to Porsche themselves to do an inspection, they don't do.

I seem to remember that Peter Morgan checked ours for bore score when he carried out the inspection, but I could be wrong. Another independent that might be worth contacting is Porsche Torque in Uxbridge, although they may be too busy as well.

I think Peter Morgan got bought out? I've seen some not so favourable reviews on their Google results; it'd be great to hear from people on here who have used them recently. Just looking at their website, when it finally loads, and they're saying a Bore Scope check isn't part of their inspection.

Just had a chat with Peter Tognola who's also super busy, but was v helpful and is doing inspections, he did also say the earlier cars didn't suffer so bad from Bore Score.
