Recently I forgot to unplug my satnav and dashcam from the cigarette lighter when leaving the car parked for about five hours which resulted in a flat battery. I think there were two issues, firstly that the dashcam was faulty and secondly that the car battery was on the way out.
I can understand why the cigarette lighter is permanently live to allow it to be used for trickle charging but was wondering if the wiring could be modified (by a suitably qualified auto electrician!) to cut the power when the ignition is switched off?
The car is a C2, 2002 registered 2003MY if that makes any difference.
Would fitting an additional separate 12V source e.g. an additional cigarette lighter like some of the Boxsters have, be a better route to go down?
I don't want to permanently wire the dashcam in the 996 as I move it between our two cars depending on which we are using at the time.
