Am I missing something here, after several hundred miles with the above, I have noticed the car not diving into the nearest badger set at it's will .....?

Yes indeed Jason .... but still very firm and directional with the chance to give it more beans without jumping off the road ... getting use to it[

Not sure I'm up to speed with what your driving these days Des. But if it's a 964RS fitted with 993RS springs and struts then the answer lies in a softer rebound rate for the struts.
Compression I think is the same, springs are the same. Result is that the wheels stay better planted over bumps and undulations.

That rate is definately too high on a Cup car and also a 964 RS for a standard road.
No experience with a two spring (helper and main spring) suspension, but the main problem is the rebound rate.
...and yes. as mentioned above, it has to be set up correctly. Otherwise you can only guess where it will go on a bumpy straight in the next moment. Under braking a bumpy straight is even more, errr, entertaining.

...as long as it´s set up correctly for the road and it´s not extremely bumpy. right. You can even get that certain "the faster the better" feeling.
But: E. g. a proper track set up makes a Cup car and a RS undriveable on a bumpy road.
And a softer rebound rate makes it easier.

So the 964RS only skittish if not set up correctly ....... hmmm had my previous three all set up with Parr, GT1 and JZ .... and other Indy's with a good reputation. They all still had a bit of wayward steer with the odd jump towards the ditch, I would say they all had track biased set up carrying a bit of extra camber, but even so[

All I am saying is the 993RS struts and bits certainly work well not taking away from any feel and firm directional steer and ride. This is a small revealation to me and would think any 64RS owner should certainly consider in my humble opinion.

993 RS uprights do reduce bump steer at low ride heights as you say. C2 does not share upright with 964RS however. Brake calipers mount axially on C2 / C4; radially on RS, Turbo, 3.8 etc....haven't checked this against PET but pretty sure this is the case.
So what is this new car Des. So far off the " what car does Des have now " pace it's not funny.

I'm guessing Des is talking about the 993RS uprights which help reduce bump steer at low ride heights ? Lot of stuff on RL about this but I didn't realise that the 964RS shared the upright as the C2 (according to PET).

It sounds like youve never has a car properly set up? Or the set up has been for track work? A standard set up on an RS is fine on the road i.e. avoid track bias and/or snow plough front ends.
I assume this is theoretical rather than for an actual car?

Yup.
2 RS's both an absolute blast on the roads...and very quick.
Not exactly slow coaches on track either.
As Hacki says when set up properly they make you want to push harder on the roads too.
Track set up cars are never going to be the same on the roads......hmmmmmm because they are set up for a track!
Scariest car I have ever been in was a 64RS clubsport on the roads driven by someone who knew how to drive it....was so fast and so hardcore it could make you hold your breath for what seemed like minutes. But you stopped in a straight line and when you were committed you were committed.
Normal RS set up is fine for both track and roads imho.
If you want to soften it....by a cab[
Even gungho gordon's GT3 with rediculously solid eibach springs and Penske race suspension was only skittish if you weren't concentrating...
I think also tyres etc come into it ... and yes have always had track bias so maybe a degree of some wayward steer on the road.
But 964RS Folklore has for always been ... to stay concentrated while driving as the car may lurch if you relax on the wheel .... this has been covered by many an owner and pundit over the last twenty years ..... just saying with above set up it does not behave this way and you can relax a bit.

Des, Minty was way out when I got her. I think these cars need setting up on a regular basis. I think it had been a couple of years since it was done. And yes minty used to tug at the wheel over bumps and I had to hang on to the wheel on a bumpy road. Not now though, its still not as smooth and forgiving as 993RS, but its much better. I think the point is there is so much to adjust, it has to be right before you can do a comparison changing parts.

Des is right. I have tried same 964 RSs with original and improved front suspensions. On a typical British road, the difference in favour of non-original one was a revelation. This was addressed on 993 RS.
BTW, it is well documented that front rebound on the original set up could not cope with fast oscillations. Dual spring RSR fixed that (e.g. on the top of raidillon, RSR shocks will absorb oscillations, not bounce on them).

GT1 did an exact Melvin Cup Car set up ... but was probably a year before you bought it .... I actually use to enjoy sometimes fighting the wheel ... as Phil said at the top of Eau Rouge/Radillion you to had man handle the car onto the Kumel Straight ....
In think the upshot of the thread is the 964RS can only be sst up for one or another .... 993RS Front set-up is for road and track, believe me the set up is still very hard and uncomprimising on road .. but no surprises ... and Badgers have feelings too!
