993 Front diff woes

My front differential is whining once again. [&o]
Many years ago I had the same scenario when driving, the faster you go the louder the whine. Back in 2006 I had Bob Watson engineering replace it with reconditioned unit. As I've owned the car for a number of years I'm finding a few jobs coming around twice.
Just a couple of questions,
1, As Bob Watson engineering are no longer trading, can anyone recommend someone who can fix or swap front differentials for reconditioned units?
2, Is there any official maintenance advice? eg, new diff seals & oil every few years?
If so I'm not getting caught out again, as there is some moisture around the unit, I've also had it up on the ramp wheels turning and noise is definitely coming from that area.
Many thx,
Neil

James used to work at Bob Watson and setup on his own when Bob ceased trading.
He is now based in Brackley and I followed him there from Bob's and a lot on our R31 Club members use him too

Would be interesting to know if there is any recommended maintenance on these. I can't say I've even heard of an oil change. Mine has whined mildly for a very long time - at least 50K miles - at least I assume it's the diff. Sound is from the front and not noticeable unless in top gear trundling along a smooth (no tyre noise) motorway. I've occasionally mentioned it to my indy who shrugs and thinks there are more urgent things to do to my car. I don't notice it really but passengers who don't know the car do.

So any advice on maintenance would be good.

Yes I want to keep the 4 because I drive to Fort William in the winter!

Just picking up on this - I have no whine but I remember something in a tech doc somewhere when I was reading up on all things 993 (new buyer fascination and all that). There is a note that the Si viscous fluid which is in our centre diff relies on different rolling speed to heat-up and gradually increase the viscosity to the point of nearly locking-up the diff. The note is that different rolling diameters due uneven tyre pressures can cause it to heat up prematurely and transfer torque to the front. (I'd guess even significantly different tyre wear could do this)
Anyway - you might wish to check your tyre pressures.

Cheers

Would appreciate any tips from someone who has removed their front diff. The oil seals have gone on mine and along with needing a new steering rack and suspension refresh etc etc I've striped the front of the car for some restoration and replacement. So everything is off the car except the diff ... driveshafts, hubs, suspension, steering rack and mount bar ... all off. But I cant get the Diff out. I can get about 75mm forward and turning it down and to one side but the bulkhead of the front trunk gets in the way. I've followed both Bently and factory workshop manuals but there just isnt enough room without the torque tube lowering ... that looks like a lot of work around the gear shift etc ... Is there a cheat here?? Any hints or tips much appreciated ...

Many Thanks ...

I might be naïve on this but I'm aware (from a 993 Register rolling road session many years ago) that disconnecting the torque tube at the rear end (up against gear box) is a very simple/quick job. It took longer for the mechanic at 9M to remove the under body panels than to disconnect the torque tube (their rolling road is 2-wheel so to test the 4 wheel drive cars he had to do this operation on each of them). So - question is - does the front end look different?

Or are you saying it is disconnected, but still in the way and it won't come out without removing much more hardware?
