993 Cabriolet hood not fully closing

I have a 1996 993 Cabriolet and have been out today with the hood down. When I tried to close the hood it stopped about 10mm short of its full travel therefore did not close fully into the locking mechanism. I opened the roof again about half way and pressed the toggle switch to close it and it then fully closed. Does anybody know why the hood did not close at the first attempt? This has happened twice now.

It's the sensors in the front of the roof. If you look back at the roof, there are 2 plastic triangular shapes sticking out of the front of the housing those are the triggers for the clamps.

If you remove the cover for the motors at the front of the roof held on by a philips screw at each end and clips. You will see that the sensors are held in place by two screws that you can adjust forwards or backwards. Undo and move forward 2/3mm and retighten. Try roof.

If you want clearer instruction with pictures look up porsche 993 cab roof sensor adjustment and I'm sure.

If your roof bangs down then they are being pushed out of place and your tensioning wire(s) are sheared which will show up as "string snake " under the mohair, one each side about 6 inches from side of roof above the windows

I eventually had the cab roof problem recently fixed by Ninemeister, Warrington. On inspection the hood had stopped working due to one of the gearboxes jamming caused by the worm becoming disengaged from the segmented gear. Both gearboxes were removed, stripped down with no apparent damage caused, cleaned, lubricated and re-assembled. All the roof mechanism was checked, reset and now the roof open and close works well.
